Maura POV

I stumble as we come out of the bar, as I feel Jane's arm around my waist help keep me steady.

"Oh dear I do believe I might have had a bit too much champagne"

"Oh dear?" She questions with a laugh.

"Jane now is hardly the time to question my words of choice"

"You're so adorable. Let's grab a cab and go back to yours okay?"

I nod before she flags down a passing cab. She opens the door for me, holding out her hand for me to hold whilst getting into the backseat.

During the short ride back to my house I feel myself getting warm and flushed that has nothing to do with the alcohol cursing through my body. It is has everything to do with Jane's proximity. I swallow deeply when I feel her heated breath against my neck.

"I had a really good time tonight Maura. I think I might have developed quite the fondness for champagne"

"Well it is your birthday and I thought maybe you would want something different from beer"

"Thanks Maura I had a really nice evening. Even without the beer" She smiles warmly to me as I turn my head to the side and my eyes meets hers.

"Did I tell you that you look really good in that dress?" I feel my pulse race as her dark eyes bore into mine full with sincerity.

"Yes you might have mentioned it once or twice. It's very sweet of you Jane, thank you"

She smiles softly as her hand reaches over my shoulder to hold me against her as she turns to look at the road ahead of us.

Minutes later we slowly make our way towards my front door, wanting to get inside so I can get my heels off.

"You should spend the night"

"Yeah I was thinking the same thing" I momentarily find it hard to get the key in the lock as I feel her presence behind me and for a moment I think that maybe getting intoxicated with Jane in my presence was a mistake. We finally get inside and I lean against the door for a moment, trying to collect my thoughts.

I feel her breath on my face as I chance a glance at her, tilting my head upwards to meet her brown eyes that seem darker than usual. I see the hesitation lingering there for a moment before her breathing picks up as she slowly, oh so slowly leans in to close the distance between us before she softly presses her lips against mine. I gasp at the sensation of finally getting to kiss Jane after longing for it, for so long. The kiss lasts for a long moment but somehow it doesn't feel long enough.

She moves away and there for a second something flashes past her eyes that I have never seen before. Unsure how to react she smiles the sweetest lopsided smile and just like that, any doubts I had vanished without a trace. Her hands planted on the wall on either side of my head moves to cover my cheeks as she kisses me once, harder this time. I waste no time to wrap my arms around her waist wanting and needing her closer to me.

We keep kissing for long minutes and the need to get some much needed air in our lungs breaks us apart. I feel my knees wobble slightly as Jane moves to clasp my hip to help keep me steady. I take a much needed breath as my eyes close in delight as Jane places a soft kiss on my cheek. So many emotions run through me as well as a thought to express them but for once I find myself at a loss of words. I hear Jane suck in a shaky breath before raising her head up and my eyes open to find hers.

"Are you okay?" The question comes out sounding so husky that it catches me by surprise.

She nods slowly, her eyes searching mine.

"You?"

"Yes" And this time it comes out in a whisper before I pull her down to kiss her again. Before my knees get too shaky again I push back from the wall pushing Jane towards the bedroom. Minutes later we reach the door of my bedroom as she pushes my back against it. She breaks our kiss and looks at me to make sure that we both want to go in there together and with a look of certainty I reach behind me to turn the doorknob.

We slowly start undressing each other as I with shaky hands push her suit jacket off her slim shoulders. Getting momentarily side tracked as her lips make contact with my neck, peppering it with barely there kisses. Needing to feel her skin against mine my hands work to rid her of the rest of her clothes before I let out a gasp as her hands touch my skin, ridding me of my underwear and bra leaving me naked before here. She looks deep into my eyes and for a moment we freeze in time as we somehow say everything that won't cross our lips. She kisses me softly as she lowers me to the bed, the blanket feels cool against the heated skin on my back. The sensation is quickly forgotten as Jane all but devours my mouth with hers.

I tilt my head back whilst I find it hard to catch my breath as her lips kiss down my chest and her hand runs up and down my trembling side. She reaches for my mouth again as her hands gently massage my aching breasts. No one had ever made me feel so much so quickly and I almost thought I was gonna come before she would even touch my wet core. My hands run over her slim back as my legs open more to be able to push her against me as my hands clasps her toned ass. She rises up above me on her hands, giving me a dimpled smile as I take the opportunity to touch her breasts. She inhales sharply as she arches in pleasure as I touch her, my legs closing around her hips.

"Yeah just like that" She moans into the room as she starts to move her hips against mine.

"Just like that Maura" She all but whimpers as I with my feet planted back on the bed and I start to move my heated center against hers.

We move as one for several hours as we kiss and touch every inch of each other, pleasuring each other till we can't keep going any longer. Jane pants heavily as she with one last kiss rolls to the side to lie next to me, pulling the blanket up to cover us.

I take a deep breath as I smooth away my hair from my sweaty forehead. Long moments turn in to minutes as either of us has yet to say a word. Just before panic is about to kick in, I feel Jane's shaking hand reach for mine.

"What did we just do?" She asks but I don't feel worried as I don't have to look at her to know that she smiled as she said that.

"We finally acted on our feelings for each other"

"Yeah..."

"Do you regret it?"

"What? No of course I don't. Why would you even ask that?" She tells me as she appears above me, leaning on her elbow letting her hand reach out to touch my cheek in a reassuring way.

"I don't know I just wanted to make sure that this wouldn't be something you would want to forget ever happened"

She swallows deeply and the intensity of the look in her eyes makes my breath catch in my throat as I feel that she is looking at my very soul.

"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me Maura. My only regret is that it took me so long to see what was right in front of me for the five years that I've known you. I'm so sorry"

"Jane you have nothing to be sorry about. What is important is that we are here and we're together"

"What are you thinking about sweetie?"

"Just all those times that.." She trails off as she closes her eyes.

"All those times that we were all but a couple already but we just didn't know it. Or I didn't know it, I didn't see it. How you didn't leave my side after I got shot. How I fought with strength that I didn't know I had when that psycho dared to put his hands on you. All the free time we spend together. How any woman that showed any interest in me, all I could think about is how I'd rather be spending my time with you. Or how it took four guys to pull me off that moron that killed his dad and hid in the house and the responding officer failed to clear the scene and he attacked you. But now it all makes sense, you know? Why my heart beats faster whenever I look at you and our eyes meet" She keeps looking up at the ceiling but as she feels my eyes on her she turns towards me.

"That's how I knew I was in love with you. That my heart always beats faster in your presence but I had hope that one day you would see what I see"

"See what?"

"That we are meant to be together"

"I love you Maura"

"I love you too" She kisses me softly.

"So are you ready for round 2?" She asks me with a mischievous smile as we both burst out laughing before I roll to the side, moving on top of her. With a kiss that leaves us both soaring with happiness we make love for another untold amount of time before we fall asleep with me curled around my brunette beauty.
