A/N: Hello everyone. Here is the first chapter of the revisoin of 7 Things! Now there are going to be a lot of things that are going to be very different. If you read my authors note on 7 Things you will know that Shibano no longer exists in this story. So with Shibano not existing I can focus more on Lina's background and her character development as a whole instead of the building character relationship between both Lina and Shibano. There were a lot of things in 7 things that I wanted to touch on, show, explain... but felt that it would be too much and it also didn't flow well with how the story was going. So with this revision, I will be able to fully explain and show readers the relationship between Sasuke and Lina, something that I was only able to briefly touch up and talk about in 7 Things (Chapter 7 I believe) as the focus was on other things. From the begining of Lina's creation her relationship with Sasuke was always a big thing to her and their odd friendship, and in this story I will actually be able to show and explain it as well as delving more into Lina's friendship with Kisho and Lee and everyone else, as well as her feelings for Neji - which I found weren't portrayed as deep as they were supposed to be in the original story.
Anyway, I hope that you all enjoy this new revised version of 7 Things!
"Chunnin exams?" an aubergine haired boy asked, looking at a piece of paper that he held in his hands. "Do you think we're ready for this?" He asked again, looking up to look at both his team mates and his jounin teacher. "I mean, we just graduated from the academy a few months ago…" He added, completely unsure and to be honest: felt that his teacher put too much faith in them.
"Are you calling our team weak, Kisho?" a female voice, belonging to a raspberry red haired girl with vibrant green eyes, asked dangerously.
"That isn't what I meant Lina!" Kisho defended. "I'm just saying that we only recently graduated, I don't think we're ready for something as big as the chuunin exams!"
"Nice save." An indigo haired boy commented, snickering behind his hand. He let out a yelp of pain when Lina hit him over the head with her fist.
"Shut it, Souta!" She snapped.
"Okay you guys, calm down." An older voice spoke up, as he looked down at them. "Some of us jounin teachers talked about it and you all have exceeded our expectations and all have grown into fine young ninja. We think you're ready for this." The red haired jounin teacher said to his students with a smile on his face.
"Sensei is right!" Lina spoke up with a grin on her face. "We can definitely do it! We'll whip everyone's butt in this exam and we'll show them exactly what team five can do!" Lina laughed. Both Souta and Kisho looked at their female teammate and sighed.
"She just wants to show off to Ino and Sakura that she's better than them…" Kisho mumbled.
"Yup, that's totally it." Souta agreed, nodding his head.
"At least Lina is the one with most spirit about this." Their sensei nodded his head. Both boys looked at their sensei and laughed nervously.
"Of course I do! Am I the only one of us that think we have a chance at this thing!?" She asked, her eyes narrowing at the other three males.
"We know where Kisho stands on the matter," Renji sensei started then looked at Souta. "But what are your thoughts, Souta?" He asked. Everyone looked at the indigo haired boy who, in return, looked at everyone else before sighing.
"I don't think we're ready-" He started and Kisho smirked. "But I also don't think we'll ever be fully ready in the future if we don't know what to expect from the exam. I think we should take it, so we can see what we're up against and to prepare for the future exams. I don't think we'll pass but I know we'll do our best no matter what." He nodded with a smile on his face.
"Always the voice of reason, that one." Lina mumbled.
"Yup, that kiss ass." Kisho mumbled back.
"He-hey!" Souta exclaimed at his teammates.
"Well, that settles it. Majority rules, sorry Kisho." Renji sensei smiled triumphantly as he handed each of his students a piece of paper. "I want you all to fill these out and return them to me tomorrow. Understand?" He asked them and they all nodded. "Good, well you three are dismissed for the rest of the day." With that, Renji sensei had disappeared leaving the three genin to do what they wished for the rest of the day.
"Awesome! I'm going to see what Kiba is up too." Kisho smiled as he stood up from his seat. "You coming, Souta? Lina?" He asked.
"Sure, I have nothing else to do." Souta nodded as he stood up.
"Sweet, what about you Lina?"
"No can do boys." She shook her head as she stood up as well. "I have to run some errands and do some chores at home or else they'll never get done. I'll see you guys tomorrow." She waved at them as she walked past the boys, her hair whishing back and forth behind her as she walked. The raspberry haired girl spent the next hour doing grocery shopping, getting the necessity's to make actual food - as well as getting a bunch of instant Ramen for Naruto. She stopped when she noticed dried ramen noodles and she smiled to herself. "Maybe I'll make my own ramen for Naruto when he gets back from his mission." She nodded to herself, agreeing that it was a good idea. With that thought she went to the vegetables and started to get an idea of what she would need to make Ramen - she knows that pork is his favorite but she couldn't for the life of her remembered what kind of vegetables that Mr. Ichiraku put in his.
"Oh sorry!" Lina apologized when she realized she backed up into someone. Turning around she let out a gasp. "Sasuke, you're back?!" She smiled.
"Oh...hey." He replied with a nod of his head.
"When did you guys get back?"
"Not to long ago actually." He replied, then he looked at the basket the girl was holding. "Doing some grocery shopping too?" Lina blinked and looked down before nodding.
"Mhm. I wanted a fully stocked fridge and cabinets for when Naruto comes home. Guess you guys beat me." She laughed. "How was the mission? If you don't mind me asking that is." She asked as the two twelve year olds walked the produce section - occasionally, Lina would grab something and put it in her basket. Sasuke only really grabbed a bunch of tomatoes. That boy will never change. Lina thought silently.
"It was….eventful." Sasuke replied distantly. Lina looked over at him a small frown. Something must have happened…
"Is everyone alright?" She asked, though Sasuke knew the true meaning behind the question: Was he and Naruto alright?
"Yeah, we pulled through." He replied with the smallest turn of his lips and that caused Lina to smile widely.
"Good! I'm glad!" She nodded. She quickly turned and grabbed a bundle of green onions and Sasuke felt his lips turn up a bit more as he watched the girl instantly become brighter. Though he, himself, didn't continue to be the same happy boy he was in his childhood… he sometimes felt like his old self when Lina was around. Perhaps it was because she still saw him as the same boy who idolized his brother, the same boy he was before his family was massacred. Or it was because she treated him no differently as she treated him before, and how she treats everyone.
He remembered one night when he was alone in his new apartment, there was a knock on his door and like a normal person he opened the door only to find a soaking wet, and crying, pink-red haired girl. He remembered what it felt like to have her latch herself onto him, and how her wet clothes felt against his dry ones. He learned that night her parents, too, had died while on a mission and she was made to live with Naruto - the boy everyone hated. She just wanted to be with someone who understood what it was like to lose a parent. He, deep down, was glad that Lina never lost who she was. She didn't become cold and filled with the need for vengeance like he did… she was still the kind and happy girl with a short temper that she's always been.
"Anyway-" Lina's voice brought him back out of his thoughts. "Hey are you listening to me!?" She grumbled, her eyes narrowing at him and he quickly nodded his head. "Really? What did I just say?"
"Anyway?" He replied as he walked to catch up to her.
"...you're a jerk." She pouted, and Sasuke felt himself smirk. She didn't have a cold bone in her body, and he knew that she couldn't stay mad at him for too long.
"Sasuke! There you are!" A familiar voice was heard and both twelve year olds grumbled at the sound of the intruders voice. "Oh...hello Lina."
"Sakura." Lina replied coldly. Sasuke took back that comment. Lina did have a cold bone, it was usually directed towards that blasted Ino Yamanaka and his, unfortunately, team mate Sakura Haruno. He remembered back as children they used to be friends, the three of them. However he didn't know exactly what or when the rift and the coldness happened between them. Not that he ever complained, the other two girls had annoyed him since he was seven.
"What are the...uh, the two of you doing?" Sakura asked cooly, and Lina rolled her eyes.
"We are catching up like friends do and we are grocery shopping, or are you stupid as well as blind?" Lina retorted and it took Sasuke's strength to not chuckle. "Anyway, I really must finish this soon. If you guys are back, I'm afraid to see what my apartment is going to be like if Naruto has made it home." Lina sighed then smiled at Sasuke. "It was nice to catch up Sasuke! I'll see you around." And with a glare towards Sakura, the dark pink haired girl turned around and walked out of the produce section and went somewhere else in the supermarket.
Sighing, she went to look at the sliced, pre-packaged pork to see what would be a good cut for Ramen. She couldn't find the right one for a good five minutes until she found a pack of thinly sliced pork and she grinned as she took it. It'll be perfect. Standing up straight, the girl began to think about what else she needed, she knew they had some miso at home already, and she had some little naruto cakes for the ramen as well from the last time she made a dolled up version of instant ramen. "I think that's it…" She nodded. She turned around and jumped when she saw a boy standing there before her with a look of determination. He was quite the character, he was taller than her, wearing nothing but green and had… very full eyebrows.
"Sorry for the bother but from the moment I saw you, I knew I must speak to you-" He stared at him. Lina stared at him with wide eyes, not knowing what he wanted. "I am Rock Lee, and I wish to know your name."
"It's Lina Hawatte…" Lina replied shyly.
"Lina...what a beautiful name for a beautiful young woman!" He exclaimed and she could feel her face heat up in embarrassment. "I, Rock Lee, wish to ask you Lina, out on a date!" Lina blinked. "And I ask you to be my girlfriend, I vow to protect you with my life!" He said with the most determination that she has probably ever heard come from someone.
"Oh…" She started as she looked at him. "No thank you." She replied and the boy had the look of devastation.
"Bu-bu-"
"Lee! Are you at it again! Stop bothering poor women!" A female voice called out. Both Rock Lee and Lina turned and saw a girl with brown hair and buns and a boy with fair skin and long dark hair walk up to them. "I'm sorry about him bothering you-"
"Oh he wasn't a bother!" Lina smiled as she waved them off. She turned to Lee with a smile and she bowed a little. "Sorry, but I'm not looking for a boyfriend. I'm preoccupied with other things right now but thank you for the offer. Perhaps we can have lunch sometime as friends!" She offered. Her offer caused the other three to look at her with surprise. The raspberry haired girl blinked in confusion for a second before she smiled again at them. "Anyway, is tomorrow afternoon for lunch at Ichiraku's a good time for you?" She asked and the boy simply nodded, he couldn't speak as he was dumbfounded at what was happening. "Okay! Well it was nice to meet you, Rock Lee. I'll see you tomorrow! Goodbye Rock Lee's friends." Lina smiled and waved as she made her way down another aisle of the supermarket towards the check out.
Kicking the door open, a sigh escaped her lips; it felt good to be home after a long day. However that feeling went away as soon as she heard a crash, and the girls eyebrow twitched in annoyance.
"Lina! You'll never believe what happened on our mission!" Naruto's loud voice rang through their little apartment. He halted with a big grin on his face when he saw her and all the bags of food. "And you bought Ramen!" He exclaimed happily as he reached for a bag but Lina turned her body away and glared at him. "Wha?!"
"No instant ramen tonight Naruto." She told him sternly and she saw his face fall in sadness. "Because tonight I am going to make you Ramen!" She finished and a smile spread on the blond boys face.
"All right! You make some of the best food, ya know." He laughed and Lina shook her head as she kicked the door closed with her foot. "I mean, I've had everything you've tried to make and it's always been so delicious so it'll be no doubt that your ramen is going to be good too! I don't think it'll beat Mr. Ichiraku's ramen, but I'm sure it'll be a close second!" He exclaimed excitedly and Lina only laughed at his words.
"Well...would you like to help me?" She offered as she rested the grocery bags on the counter.
"You mean it?!" He shouted and Lina glared at him to be quiet.
"If you don't be so loud, then yeah. But first put these groceries away so I can start on dinner." SHe ordered him and Naruto simply nodded and compiled to her demand. "And while we're making this, you can tell me all about your mission!"
"And that's how it happened." Naruto finished his tale as he leaned against the counter and Lina began making their bowls.
"Wow...eventful was right…" Lina mumbled, remembering Sasuke's words.
"Huh? What was that?"
"Oh, nothing! Don't worry about it Naruto." She waved him off as she put the finishing touches on their Ramen. "Let's just enjoy our Ramen!" Lina smiled at me as she held up the ramen bowls.
