AN: I'm wandering out of my usual fandoms tonight... Tag to 2.22 Stealing Home. I was watching it tonight on TV Land and the plot bunny bit and demanded attention. Set sometime in current season before 5.17 Green Piece, I think.
She heard footsteps behind her in the otherwise deserted alley. Danny always asked her not to take this shortcut, and she felt like a fool now for not listening to him. Lindsay resisted the urge to glance back. Glancing back would slow her down, and right now she needed to speed up. The busier, more populated street was only a few yards away, and she could get back in to her apartment, lock the door tight and feel safe.
No sooner then she had finished her thought, a hand clamped around her wrist and yanked her back. Her other arm wrapped protectively around her stomach as she was shoved back against the wall. She looked up, glaring into the familiar eyes of her attacker.
James Vackner sneered at her, brows furrowed just as they had done in the prison when he'd hung up instead of answering her one question.
"You wanted to know why, huh? Made a special trip just to ask? How's this for an answer?"
She fought hard when his hands wrapped around her throat suddenly, squeezing painfully, cutting off her air. Her struggles did nothing, she couldn't get loose, couldn't breath-
"Lindsay! Come on, babe, wake up for me now."
Her eyes flew open, and her struggles slowed as she sluggishly took in her surroundings. Danny was leaning over her, eyes full of concern.
"Hey, you back with me?" he asked softly, rubbing her stomach gently, "Must of been some nightmare." Lindsay only nodded, resting her head against his chest, breathing slowly and deep. He was studying her now, squinting without his contacts in, until he gave up and grabbed his glasses from the bedside table. "You wanna talk about it?" She snuggled closer as he shifted to get them both more comfortable.
She just shook her head, "Old case, that's all." He nodded and held her. He had those nights too.
End.
