It was late when Delphine was finally able to leave the DYAD Institute. While normally she wouldn't stay overnight with Cosima, after the week they had had she knew she would only worry about her girlfriend all night if she weren't with her.
Once she reached Cosima's apartment she checked the time on her phone and saw it was nearing 1am. She used the light of her phone to climb up the stairs, and then find the spare key above Cosima's door. Quietly she opened the door and immediately saw Cosima asleep on the couch with the TV still playing in front of her.
My idiot puppy, she thought as she observed Cosima's sleeping form for a second.
Slowly she walked over to her girlfriend and crouched down, gently moving the hair out of Cosima's face. Softly, she started pressing kisses to Cosima's cheeks and nose to get her to wake up.
"Cosima you have to get up," she whispered. "You know you're going to be sore in the morning if you don't move to your bed."
Cosima's eyebrows crinkled as she slowly started to come into awareness.
"Delphine?" she asked, voice thick with sleep.
"Oui, ma cherie," Delphine replied, smiling softly at her girlfriend's sleepy state. "I came to be with you tonight."
Cosima finally managed to open her eyes and met Delphine's smile with a bashful one of her own.
"I was talking to Sarah and I guess I fell asleep…" she began to explain, but Delphine cut her off with a shake of her head.
"It's okay, I am glad you were resting," she said. "Now let's get to bed."
She put her arm around Cosima and helped her sit up. While Cosima was doing a lot better, she was still tired most of the time and simple tasks would drain her energy.
Slowly the two moved over to Cosima's bed, then Delphine pulled the sheets back and helped Cosima get into the bed and under the covers. She walked around to the other side and took off her jeans before getting into the bed as well.
Immediately Cosima rolled into Delphine's body space and curled her body around Delphine's seeking warmth and comfort while she was still half asleep. Moments like this reminded Delphine why everything that had happened was worth it—Cosima was the most important thing in her life and she never wanted to lose that.
Slowly, she started running her hands through Cosima's hair, giving comfort while also comforting herself with the feel of Cosima breathing beside her. Tilting her head down slightly, she kissed Cosima's forehead.
"Je t'aime," she breathed, before shutting her eyes to sleep as well.
Right before she succumbed to sleep she felt Cosima burrow into her body further, nuzzling her neck with her nose.
"I love you too," Cosima mumbled, before sleepily placing a kiss to the base of Delphine's throat and letting both of their breaths lull her back to sleep.
