Chapter 1: Intro
Hi. My name is Ariel. I'm 16 and today is my first day as a sophomore at North shore High. My dad, my little brother and I moved here (Atlanta) about a week ago from Florida because of dad's job.
"Hey kiddo," his loud voice boomed as he strolled into the kitchen and ruffled my red hair. I looked up from my bowl of Chocolate Puffs and smiled.
"Morning dad."
He began to pour himself some coffee. "You ready for your first day of school?"
I shrugged. "Maybe. Are you ready for your first day at work?"
Dad smiled which caused his crows feet to be more noticeable. "Hope so."
Just then, my little troublemaker brother rolled in on his skateboard. He did some kind of trick which made the board flip. He caught it and rested it under his arm.
"Hey everyone," He said in his 14 year old raspy voice.
"Morning Flounder," I said.
"No trouble today, okay?" Dad told him as he handed him a glass of OJ and swiped his beanie off his head, releasing his bright blonde hair.
I was kind of jealous. I had always wanted blonde hair but my mom always told me that my red hair was gorgeous. Speaking of my mom, you're probably wondering where she is. Well I don't have one. She died in a boating accident a few years back when I was 9. It took us awhile to adjust to life without her but eventually we did. I still miss her a lot though and so does everyone else. Dad tells me sometimes that I remind him so much of her which always makes me smile. But anyway…I was a little nervous for today and I prayed to God that I wouldn't be labeled as one of that smart, outcast, freaks that nobody ever talks to. Actually, I just wanted this year to be normal and good.
"Ariel, are you listening to me?" Dad asked, interrupting my thoughts.
I hadn't heard him at all. "Huh?"
Dad sighed. "I said you both have 6 dollars for lunch, I've already spoken to all your teachers, and I'll be in meetings all day so if you need anything call Sebastian. I wrote down his number and stuck it in your back packs. He'll be picking you up today at 3:00 so be ready. Alright let's go."
Sebastian was my father's personal assistant and right hand man for over 12 years. So to say that Sebastian was practically part of the family was an understatement. I put my dish in the sink, grabbed my bag off the kitchen cabinet and followed my dad and brother outside to the BMW waiting for us. I really hoped today would be okay. Oh jeez.
