Blurred
It's blurry around the edges, but you can still see what's going on.
You're walking with your wife and daughter, walking through the platform that she still has to point out every year.
And just like every year, you can't help but wonder if it's all worth what you go through.
For a whole year your daughter is only able to be contacted by owl.
For a whole year your daughter is learning something that isn't of use in your world.
For a whole year you daughter isn't studying what she needs to get into a university.
For a whole year…you miss her.
But, you know that there isn't only bad things that come of it.
For a whole year your daughter has the feeling of friendship which she hasn't had before.
For a whole year your daughter learns nifty tricks to show them once she's old enough.
For a whole year your daughter studies enough to be able to have a successful job in the wizarding world.
For a whole year…you are proud of her.
So, you continue on letting her go again.
You go through your routine every year.
"A friend says goodbye," you say.
"A friend says goodbye," she echoes.
"But it's not the end."
"But it's not the end."
"They will come back."
"They will come back."
"And when they do-"
"And when they do-"
"-you can say-"
"-you can say-"
"I love you," you make sure to say it with your love clearly showing.
"I love you," she makes sure to do the same.
The two of you embrace, then your daughter and your wife do the same.
Things are starting to get blurry again, but you don't understand why.
Are you crying?
You reach up and feel your face, but there is no wetness.
Your daughter goes on the train and waves goodbye, but everything is getting so much more blurry.
Does the train say Hogwarts Express or does it say Harlem Renaissance?
Who is that person waving goodbye to you as if they know you?
Why are there people looking at you as if they hate you?
Why is everything so blurry?
You jolt out of your dream, realization flooding your senses.
But that doesn't explain why you felt like you knew the girl.
Your daughter?
You don't have a daughter.
Your wife and you had finally achieved your "one day" dream of moving to Australia.
But suddenly why is everything blurry again?
You know that this isn't a dream.
You reach up and touch your eyes and they come off wet.
You are…crying?
AN: Complete change of style there. O.O but it was fun to write. :) this was written for The Lucky Dip Competition by a-trip-to-honeydukes on the HPFC forum.
