Might write a sequel. What do you think? Dont own the marauders, if I did i wouldnt be wasting my time on here if you know what I mean. ;)
It was a Tuesday.
Remus remembered that.
Just like how he remembered Sirius' green jumper, James' red one, sent from James' mother that Christmas.
Just like he remembered how three quarters of the school's population were there on the grounds, crowded around the lake- partly for the sun beaming down; partly for the rumour that there was something in the lake. The something had been accused of trying to pull people under, had been viewed by students and teachers on many occasions, but nobody really believed it was dangerous.
Just like how he remembered James and Sirius, mucking around, closest to the water- leaning right over the edge, trying to spot the creature.
Just like how he remembered James, dropping his wand in the water. Cursing, and reaching over to get it.
Remus remembered how McGonagall started yelling at him from across the lake. Everyone turned to stare, laughing as they realised his wand had gone in.
Remus remembered how the dark shape started speeding under the water towards James and Sirius. He was suddenly yelling with the rest of the school- Get away from the water.
There's something in the water.
Remus remembered how the thing reached up. Grabbed James' arm- pulled him in.
James went in head first; Sirius threw himself on his stomach over the bank and reached in to the water, yelling his mate's name. The entire school had stopped laughing now. In fact, they had stopped everything. Silence was ringing over the grounds- silence, apart from Sirius, repeatedly screaming that name. James.
Remus remembered how James had suddenly burst out of the water, panting, gasping. Had clutched Sirius' arm. Sirius, he'd choked, nearly crying. Sirius, it's got my leg.
It hurts.
Sirius carried on pulling at his friend's arm, carried on screaming. James was screaming back, holding on, then the thing came back and wrapped itself around James' stomach.
Remus remembered how the thing jerked on James' stomach. Pulled him back. Took Sirius with him.
Remus remembered how Sirius went down, yelling that name one last time. Remembered how his green jumped disappeared in the murky water; remembered how the school watched, wide eyed, him included, as the water swirled, rippled. Then went still.
Remus remembered hos he stumbled over to the bank, was pulled back by a sobbing Lily. He remembered how teachers pulled out their wands, screaming spells and enchantments at the water to retrieve the boys. He remembered how he was vomiting when they stopped trying.
Remus remembered how everyone just watched the water for what seemed like decades, waiting for the two boys- so full of life, so happy, so loved- to come back up.
But they never did.
