Setsuna: This is currently a series of reflections and fluffy one-shots for Austria and Belarus. Yeah, crazy pairing, I know, but not exactly worthy of a crack fic. I can't write crack fics, unless Lettuce is co-writer.

Right. So I don't own Hetalia, sadly... but here's Chapter 1: Reflecting on Reality.

Austria/Belarus (Anchored to Life)
Ch1: Reflecting on Reality

Sometimes he could have sworn that she was the only thing keeping him from completely losing his mind. Funny thing, then, that most people thought that she was the mentally unstable one.

Yes, music did give him the wings he needed to drift away from chaos. But when he needed to forget anything—everything—he would turn to her. She would give him that sickeningly beautiful smile, and he would feel like bolting from the room. Whether it was due to passion or fright, he would never know, because he never succumbed to such a dangerous mix of temptation and instinct. But it was enough to loosen his fears and inhibitions, was enough to set him free again.

Yes, they each had their acts. He would be seen as aloof, somewhat snobbish, quite conservative and married to someone he hadn't had the courage to really love. Now, he had that courage, and it was meant for someone else.

She might be seen as murderous, quick to anger, and wildly overprotective. Now, she had that self control. And she was dearly loyal to whoever she deemed worthy of defense.

Loyalty. That was the thing about her that everyone seemed to forget. She would kill for the one she loved without hesitation. Perhaps it was her choice of who to love—but what would judgement do? Nothing. That was what no one understood about her.

And even now, when he glanced at her from across the table, he could see the genuine warmth behind her cleverly disguised glare.

He was Roderich Edelstein, better known as Austria.

She was Natalya Arlovskaya, better known as Belarus.

They were much more than lovers. And they still are so much more.

Note to self: Belarus will not hesitate to kill me. Austria will forbid me to come anywhere near his country. And I will be screwed.
