Taking You Home- K+- Romance
Disclaimer: If you think I own Degrassi, cool. However, I don't. So no one sue me, okay?
WARNING: This could possibly contain spoilers, if you haven't seen Turned Out, because there is a brief mention of JT's problem, and also if you haven't seen Tell it To my Heart, Lexicon of Love, etc., because there are mentions of Pemma.
The gym is darkened, lit up in places and decorated. Everyone is dancing and laughing and talking; you should be out there too, but instead you're sitting here at your table. Alone.
Manny is out on the floor, dancing wildly and
unrestrainedly. You've always envied how she can just let herself go
like that. Right now, she's dancing with Peter, of all people. You
smile; they're better together than you and he ever were. The only
draw your relationship had, you've been forced to admit to yourself,
was the fun of the secrecy. The secrecy that had ultimately been the
relationship's downfall. But you're friends now, amazingly enough.
Life really has changed in the past year.
I had a good
life
Before you came
I had my friends and my freedom
And I
had my name
The song changes and it's slower. It's the song from the dance you went to in grade seven, the one that you- you stop yourself. That's a dangerous line of thought. Instead, you glance around the room again. This is your senior prom- you should be out there having a good time. Your friends certainly are. You see JT and Liberty, dancing so close there is barely any room between them. There is a thin gold band, nothing fancy, on Liberty's hand that wasn't there at graduation this morning. You smile, so proud of the grown-up man JT has become. He's a far cry from the geeky little kid you met on the playground, the one with the water gun, or even the boy from last year- the one who overdosed.
Still
there was sorrow, emptiness
Till you made me glad
Oh, in this
love
I found strength
I never knew I had
Looking to the left, you see Toby dancing with- is that Kendra? You smile. Toby is one that you've always known will be all right in the end. You sigh. Unlike you, of course.
This day should feel special, important, and instead you just feel- the same. You don't feel like this is the last day of your high school experience. You know this should be a big deal, but- something's missing. Something's been missing. You hear the song change again, and it's the song from your parents' wedding, the one when you- you stop yourself again.
Manny comes over to the table, hugging you from behind and resting her chin on the top of your head. She asks if you're okay, and you nod and smile, because really- you are. Sort of. She grins, hugs you again, and goes back to where Peter is standing at the refreshments table. You sigh and drift off into space, thinking at once of everything and nothing. Suddenly, you hear a voice.
"It's a slow song, and you're not dancing."
Oh, and this love
Is like
nothing I have ever known
You look up, knowing that it's him before you even see him. And there he is; his hair is longer, he's taller, but the rest of him is the same. And suddenly you know why this day hasn't felt as momentous as it should. You smile, a real smile, before you reply.
"No one caught my interest."
"How about now?"
Take my
hand, love
I'm taking you home
You stand, and take his hand. "I'd love to." You walk out onto the dance floor, and as he pulls you close to him, you get the feeling you're finally where you should be.
"What are you doing here?" you ask softly, laying your head on his shoulder.
"Just felt like I needed to be here." You look up and see him looking at you. He smiles tentatively; you smile back. Then he's kissing you, and you're getting that feeling again. And you realize that this is what's been missing.
He's what's been missing.
I'm taking you home.
And now, back in his arms, you're home.
