Her hair is a beautiful gold colour, wild and untamed, and he wants to run his fingers through it as he kisses her. Her nose is small and smattered with freckles and he wishes he could kiss every one, and count them and make them his own. She has rosebud lips and upon them a smile is often evident and he could kiss it for hours at a time. He loves to see her lips swollen after she plays the clarinet, wants to claim them for himself. But the thing he loves about her face the most is her eyes. They are chocolate brown, and he could eat them all up, and when she laughs they sparkle. When she is sad and they are brimming with tears they are still beautiful, and he wishes he could kiss her pain away. And all the time they have gold flecks, like stars, and he thinks that they are magical, like her, and he wants to gaze at them forever.
Sirius Black notices all these things as he watches his godson's best friend across the table, and he knows he can't have her, because she's so pure and innocent, and because he has seen things she could never imagine, things she will never see if he can help it. Sirius watches as she tries to ignore Ron's fingers itching for her own, and he sees his godson watching her too, his emerald eyes worried.
But when Sirius looks away, when his gaze is finally fixed upon Harry, that is when she drinks him in, and she looks at those grey eyes that seem so empty and so sad and she wishes she could take the pain away. If only she knew. If only she could see the way he feels. And Harry watches it all, with an empty feeling in his stomach, and he wants her to be happy. He wishes he could tell Sirius he can have her, that he's happy for them. But he's not and when their eyes finally connect he feels his hope slipping away. Because eventually Sirius will have to give into those gold flecks. Because he has to know. Harry knows this and he decides to let her go. He decides to let those gold flecks sparkle. He decides to let her laugh again.
