The counterpart story type thing of my other short one shot "The Moon." You don't HAVE to read "The Moon" to understand this, but its definitely preferred! (Plus, its only like, 300 words, so why not? XD) Thanks for reading my lovelies! :D
No one in the mansion was allowed to admit it. Even while almost everyone knew, no one could speak of it.
Ciel Phantomhive, even as mature as he was, was still just a child. It was easy to forget that.
And since he was still just a child, he still had childish fears.
But in the Phantomhive Mansion, speaking of such fears was possibly one of the largest offenses one could commit.
It seemed that there was only one person that did not know about Ciel's fear of the darkness. It was the one who should have been the first to know.
Sebastian.
The butler could not understand how he had not known for so long. Even so, he intended to do something about it. What kind of butler would he be if he were unable to do something as simple as getting rid of his master's fear of darkness?
That very night, once Sebastian bid Ciel goodnight, he left the grand bedroom after purposely leaving the candles on.
Ciel, annoyed with the strong light, made his way out of bed to blow out the flames. He would, he decided, scold Sebastian in the morning for leaving without turning out the lights.
And just as Ciel blew out the candles for himself, he was wrapped in darkness. But the darkness was somehow...different that night.
Ciel went back into bed and figured out why. He stared, wide eyed, at his ceiling. There, there were hundreds of glow in the dark star stickers faintly illuminating the entire room.
The next morning, for the first and possibly last time, Ciel swallowed his pride and thanked his butler for what he had done.
"I don't want tea this morning, Sebastian."
"As you wish, young master. What would you prefer instead?"
The boy was not used to thanking people. He chose to just go out and say it without warning. "Sebastian. Thank you for the stars," he said.
"Excuse me?" asked Sebastian, wondering if he heard correctly. He raised an eyebrow.
Ciel cleared his throat. He would not, he decided, repeat his thank you. "...I just want water today," he said, acting normally.
Sebastian was smiling lightly. "Of course. Will that be all?"
"Yes, Sebastian," said Ciel. "That will be all."
