Gaara was on his way to his new office. He had only recently been made Kazekage, and still felt a rush of pride each time he thought of it.

Who would have thought he would be the Kazekage? The boy that everyone hated, scorned, and feared. There were a few that didn't, but most of those were his brother and sister. And they're obliged to care really, but they really did care for him, and growing up that hadn't mattered much to him. At the time all he cared about was that they had prevented him from venting his anger and hatred upon others. Then he hated them for it, but now he was glad they did.

Everything in his life changed after he had met and fought Naruto. Naruto proved to him that he didn't need to take his anger out on others to get what he had originally wanted: to be acknowledged by everyone.

Naruto had been just like him and he had earned the respect of, if not the entire village yet, the majority of his peers. Those were the most important really, those are the ones he grew up with and he associated with the most.

So even though he hasn't seen Naruto in a few years, Gaara considered him one of his most important friends.

Gaara became aware of Temari coming up behind him, but didn't think much of it till she came up close and covered his eyes with her hand.

"Temari, what are you up to?" He wasn't too concerned since it was Temari, she was unlikely to pull any unpleasant tricks on him.

"You'll find out soon. So just be patient."

She started walking with him and he let her. Temari could be stubborn if she really wanted to and the quickest way to get out of the situation was to go along with her.

He became aware of multiple others running ahead of them as they walked along and wondered what was going on. After all, even though his eyes were covered he could tell they were still headed towards the building for his office. There was nothing special about it besides that. And he had already been headed to the building.

So even though he was starting to get a little irritated, he went along with whatever was being planned.

It wasn't long before the people passing them were gone, and they arrived at his office. Temari opened the door, and uncovered his eyes.

"Surprise! Happy Birthday Kazekage!"

His ears were blasted for a few seconds, so it took him a little while to comprehend what was being said. After his ears quit ringing, he just gaped in surprise. His birthday? Was it his birthday? And they were celebrating it?

He saw the children that he had tried to make friends with in the past, now no longer children. They respected him, even liked him now. He also saw a few of the elders of the village and his brother and sister.

His eyes started threatening to spill over in tears, but he didn't want to cry in front of everyone. So he controlled himself, while inside he couldn't stop crying and smiling with joy.

A/N:Totally lame title really, but I can't think of a good one. Anyone got a suggestion?

Just a little drabble of Gaara's first birthday since becoming Kazekage. It is Gaara's birthday today, so I wanted to write something for him since he is one of my four favorite characters from Naruto.

Happy Birthday Gaara.

If you guys think that I wrote Naruto, then you guys are pretty dang dumb. Or maybe I should think of it as a compliment that you think this is as good as that stuff. Anyways, the thing is, I don't own Naruto.
