A/N: yeah yeah, i don't normally write darkish depressing fics but this one was screaming in my head to be written. It's short, but it gets Hatori's feelings across. Enjoy.
Rated: K+ (hehe a lower rating!)
Disclaimer: I don't own Hatori or Kana Sohma, don't own the music.
Dedication: To Rascal Flatts, your songs are amazing!
Hatori sighed as he sat at his desk. Today had been yet again another long day filled with visits to Akito and other Sohma family members. Sometimes he wished he could just take a vacation.
He ran a few fingers through his hair, pausing as his hand past over his left eye. His right eye quickly darted up to the picture frame sitting on a shelf above his desk.
"Kana..." He whispered as he picked up the frame and pulled it down, closer to him, a few tears falling down his eyes.
'You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
Alone and helpless like you've lost your fight
But you'll be alright, you'll be alright'
As he stared at the picture, tears falling down on the dusty glass, he sighed again. Akito had made him let go, made Kana forget. It was Akito's fault he was miserable... but yet, he still knew what he did was for the best.
He replaced the frame and went to work on some basic, but never-ending paperwork he had to always fill out on a daily basis by order of Akito.
Once he finished he stood and took off his doctor jacket, hanging it up. The radio was playing soft music but his mind was only playing the single name, 'Kana'.
'Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you're made of
You might bend till you break
Cause it's all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you've had enough.
You get mad, you get strong,
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand, then you stand.'
There were no other sounds in the house as Hatori walked softly towards his bedroom. He made no attempt to go cook himself some dinner, not having eaten all day. All he could think about were Kana and the long talks they used to have at the office.
