Here is my response to Lady Eleanor Boleyn's Decisions challenge on The Dark Lord's Most Faithful Forum.
This story is 200 words and 1199 characters long, and my prompt was "commander-in-chief".
Decisions
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story involving one or more Harry Potter Characters and a very important decision. They can either be making it, helping someone else make, struggling over it, or living with the consquences...Your Choice.
Word Count: The usual multiple of 100 words applies...
Option #1: If you wish to merge this with my last challenge and try to get this done in under 4000 characters including spaces, I'd be thrilled...I was rather disappointed with the lack of entries for the last one...
Option #2: Give me four random numbers, the first one being 66 or under, the second being 150 or under, the third being forty-five or under and the last being 300 or under and I'll give you a word you have to try and incorporate into your story...
He'd never led such a raid before.
One more time, Lucius checked everybody's positions, retreated to the shadows, ran the plan through his mind as he waited. His heart was beating hard and fast; thank goodness, he'd always been quite good at controlling his nerves and expression. Politics, mind games, fights, he was familiar with those. This, however…
The Ministry scheme had been their Lord's obsession for months, and now he was in charge. He, Lucius Malfoy, effectively leading the men, as a commander-in-chief of sorts, with his sister-in-law by his side. He did not need to picture the consequences of failure: he knew they would be disastrous. Letting his master down was simply no option.
The plan had been carefully prepared: they had all entered the Ministry safely through the Floo network, guards had been overpowered and Potter would fall neatly into their trap. From there it would be Lucius' job: his decisions would be followed, bringing success or defeat in their wake. He shook himself. A group of teenagers – nothing could possibly go wrong. All that mattered was to ensure the Prophecy would not be damaged.
Lucius swallowed hard and smiled tightly. Soon he'd be home with Narcissa.
