Chapter One

The flock and I went airborne. Tears still wet my cheeks. Fang had said if we hadn't found Angel's body yet, she probably wasn't alive. Then he left me and said he was going to find the Doomsday Group's HQ and destroy it. Great.

"Where do you think Dr. Martinez, Jeb and Ella are?" Dylan asked suddenly.

"If I knew, don't you think I'd tell you?" I yelled at him.

"Listen, Max, I'm sorry about what happened today, but we have a new mission now. To find your family. So we need to quit sulking, and start kicking some butt." Dylan touched my hand. I pulled back.

"Let's go back to the house and figure out where to start looking." Nudge offered.

"Sounds good to me." Iggy said. We flew to my mom's house, which took a while and we all were pretty winded when we got there. All the kids crashed once inside the house.

"It's good to be back, hm?" Dylan asked, sitting on the couch. I nodded but paced around the house. Dylan's eyes followed me everywhere I went. "Max, you look tired. Come sit down." He patted the cushion next to him. I moped over to the couch and slouched down on the seat. Dylan wrapped his arm around me. "Cheer up. At least you still have me." My eyes widened. Yes, at least I still have Dylan. My stupid, perfect other half. I rolled my eyes and he chuckled. "Max, you're so pretty." He curled my hair with his finger than leaned in close.

"No, no, Dylan, don't do that." I pulled back. He got closer and I smacked him across the face. "Dylan, I don't want to kiss you right now. So, knock it off!" Dylan smiled.

"Not right now?" He smiled. I glared at him.

"You know what I mean!" I faced away from him. Dylan sighed loudly.

"Max, you know we are destined to be together. So, why don't you stop fighting it? Let us be together!" Dylan announced, standing up and taking my hands. "Marry me Maximum! Marry me!" I scowled and pulled both my hands from his.

"Dylan? What the- No! Just, no!" I stood up and ran to my room, slammed the door shut and locked it. Then I went to my bed and collapsed. Why did Dylan have to do that? I loved Fang and I just lost my Angel! He knew I was stressed. Why do I feel like I want to cry? There was a knock at my door.

"Max? Hey, Max? It's Nudge." I sighed, wiped my eyes and answered the door. "Max! Whoa, you look horrible!" I glared at her. "Oh, sorry! Um, the phone is ringing for you." I followed her to the kitchen for the phone.

"Hello?" I said, my voice cracking.

"Max? Are you okay? You sound like you have been crying. Um, It's me, Fang." My heart stopped and I had to gasp for air.

"Hello, Fang. Yes, it's me, Max. What's up?" I walked to my room and shut the door.

"Max, should I call you back?" He sounded sincere.

"No. Just talk to me."

"Well, I found the Doomsday Headquarters and I also found something- interesting." He said, now sounding worried. There was a pause of silence.

"Well, tell me!" I said, impatient. My face was stiff from all of the dried tears.

"Why don't you meet me at the headquarters and we'll talk about this." He said. But I was too impatient.

"Fang, tell me now." He was silent. "Fang, tell me right now." He sighed loudly. I heard another voice in the background. It was Maya's.

"Aren't you going to tell her?" She asked.

"Yeah, Fang, aren't you going to tell me?"

"I looked into the HQ building and I found something." He said, dragging out the conversation even longer.

"Fang, I'm irritated now. Tell me or we're not coming."

"Your mother and sister are here. Being held captive." I dropped the phone.
