"Daddy?"

Shikamaru sighed and looked at his daughter, "You should be in bed, what do you need?"

"I can't sleep; will you tell me the story of how I got my name?"

"Out of all stories you have to pick this one. How troublesome."

"No! Don't say not tonight, you always say not tonight! Please!!" she begged putting on her best puppy dog face.

"Alright," he said as he set his book down and put the child in his lap. "Well, mommy and I wanted a child for a very long time. So after many tries we finally had you."

"So I'm the only one?"

"Yes, you're our miracle child. Now quit interrupting," he said annoyed, "Do you want to hear the story or not?"

"Yes! Please go on, please!"

"Alright then hush up. See, because none of our other children had survived we had high hopes for you. But deep down we were scared that you weren't going to make it. Our fears were confirmed when you came out of mommy and you were all blue. But Aunt Sakura helped to get you stable. But you were far from okay. Every day we wondered if it would be our last day with you. For ten long days and nights you hovered between life and death."

"Were you worried?"

"I was very worried. Because we didn't know how much time you had, someone was always by your side. Weather it was me, or mommy, or one of our close friends you were never alone ever. On the tenth day a storm came. It was a very bad storm. The wind howled and the sand ripped through the village. The hospital lost power and we thought that we would lose you for sure."

"But you didn't, I'm right here!"

He sighed in annoyance, "I told you quit interrupting if you want to hear the story!"

"Sorry Daddy, keep going!"

"As I was saying; the power went out in the hospital and everyone thought that this was going to be you last night. So we took you off all the machines and everybody said goodbye to you. And then you through us all through a loop and you cried. Your mother was filled with such joy that she started to cry.

"Your mother said that the wind had been speaking to her all night crying one name, Masago. I agreed because it's a good strong name. And your mother is a troublesome woman to argue with," he said muttering the last phrase.

"And that's how I got my name?"

"Yes, now that you've heard the story for the millionth time, you better get to bed."

"Daddy, that's such a sweet story. Can't you tell it to me again?"

"8 o'clock is bed time. That's mommy's law. You best get too it."

"Oh fine!" she pouted, "Parents are so troublesome," she muttered as she stomped off to bed.

Shikamaru sighed. "Kids are so troublesome," he thought to himself as he picked his book back up.

This is my first attempt, it's nearly 2am and I was thinking of family I guess. Anyways Masago I guess means Sand and symbolizes long life.
