This has nothing to do with my other story Cookie Couples and no, not all of my stories are orientated around cookies; this one has ice-cream too.
Disclaimer: Yeah right, I own it all!!! In my dreams that is.
Greg walked into the almost empty locker room and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Sara sitting on the bench, staring blankly at the row of metal lockers in front of her.
"You okay, Sar?" He asked, dropping on to the bench beside her. Sara eyes snapped up and met his, clearly startled. She nodded slightly before seemingly finding something of great interest on the floor.
Greg gently put his arm around her shoulder, obviously expecting her to push him away as he had so many times before. To his surprise Sara leant into his embrace and he willingly hugged her tighter.
"What happened?" queried Greg softly, not wanting to push Sara too hard as he was glad she had finally started opening up to him after all his years of relentless flirting.
Sara shifted slightly in his arms before replying, "my brother is… he's ill, in hospital." Her voice thickened slightly and tears threatened to spill over. Greg slowly rubbed circles into her back and pulled her closer to him.
"He'll be okay, Sara. He'll be okay." Greg was more than slightly shocked at what had happened. Sara was normally so secretive; especially around him. Nick was her usual confidante, those two were like brother and sister, and Greg was surprised that she'd told him first. Not that Greg was complaining or anything but still. It was odd.
It was at that moment that Catherine decided to walk into the room. Under normal circumstances she would have made a witty remark but she realised that Sara was upset and Catherine was worried. Sara hadn't been her normal sarcastic self that night and everyone had noticed it. (Except Grissom, but since when did he notice anything? I'm anti-Grissom; hard to tell isn't it. =D)
Greg looked up and his eyes met Catherine's. She raised an eyebrow, silently asking what was wrong with their colleague. Greg shrugged slightly and continued to comfort Sara. Catherine headed back to the door but hesitated, halfway through the doorway. "Cookies and ice-cream always make me feel better," she said to Sara before leaving.
Sara slowly sat up and stared at Greg, not quite believing that someone who was continually messing around could be so understanding. Even though he'd been practically silent the entire time, it was as if Greg had suddenly transformed into a mature, comforting person.
Sensing the brunette's confusion he met her gaze. Sara quickly looked to the floor, ashamed of crying in front of Greg. "It's alright to be upset Sar." He took her hand in his and squeezed it gently.
"Thanks Greggo, for …well, for just being here I guess." Sara's voice was still raspy from crying but it still made Greg's heart melt.
"I'm always here for you Sar, never forget that." Greg saw Sara's eyes mist over and smiled, "why don't you go home and follow Cath's advice." When she looked puzzled he elaborated. "Go home, watch a good movie with lots of cute guys in and eat lots of cookies and ice-cream!"
(My friend gave me this exact advice when I was upset. Didn't help much but they tasted nice=P)
They both smiled at each other, brown eyes met brown eyes in a look of understanding, and something else. They were suddenly jolted back to reality when someone from dayshift walked past to get to his locker.
"Thanks Greg." Sara said again, before getting up and leaving. At the door she paused and turned back around. "None of the guys in the movie could be as cute as you Greg." With that she walked through the door, leaving Greg sitting on the bench, staring at the closed door, trying to let what had just happened sink in.
Reviews rock! (hint, hint) If I don't get any I may be forced to follow Catherine's advice. I might anyway but still, please review!!!
