Alex Russo couldn't stop smiling, and as unusual as it was, it wasn't hard to figure out why. She and Justin had just come to terms with the fact that they may not become the family wizard, and she was grounded- albeit lightly, due to her sentencing. Alex saw it to be perfectly reasonable as to why she was smiling.
The main reason was because of Mason. When he apparently left forever, Alex had been noticeably more bitter and crabby, to the point where she would use magic to throw food at happy couples, or using magic to give them nightmares telling them that they will never be with their significant other forever, because true love never won. But after he'd returned, a wave of happiness had washed over her and it wasn't leaving anytime soon.
Alex had just kissed Mason goodnight and closed the door behind him, signing. She floated upstairs to her room and in a moment of pre-teenaged happiness, made a giant teddy bear appear out of thin air and began dancing around her room. She was so in love and it was making her crazy!
"Are you done dancing yet?" An irritated voice not unlike her own cracked like a whip across her room and made Alex freeze in her tracks. A young woman was sitting on her bed, with her arms and legs crossed and a guarded look on her beautiful face. Alex blinked. She looked so familiar…
"Sit down, kid." The woman stood up and pointed to the bed.
"Excuse me? This is my room. You can take a seat." The woman got in Alex's face.
"It's my room too, and I'm taller. Now SIT." She pushed Alex onto her bed and began pacing. Alex looked at her in confusion. "What do you mean, 'it's your room too'?"
The woman stopped. "I can't believe you haven't figured it out yet."
It suddenly dawned on Alex. "Are-are you me?"
"Now she gets it." The woman continued pacing. "Yes, I'm you, yes, I'm from the future, and yes, I came back for a reason." She stopped in front of Alex. "Mason's back, right?"
"Yeah, we found him with the country wizards." Future-Alex nodded. "Okay…you're happy with him, right?"
"Of course I am! Wait- are you with him in the future?" Alex asked nervously. Future-Alex didn't answer. "Hello! Future-Me?"
Future-Alex stopped again. "If you love Mason- truly love him- you HAVE too listen to me." Alex nodded. Future-Alex took a deep breath. "You were told that you couldn't be with Mason if you gave up your powers, right?"
"Yeah…that's why I'm working even harder to be the family wizard." Alex answered.
Future-Alex leaned in, as did Alex. "Do you realize what will happen if you lose the contest?"
"Yes…I lose my powers. But it won't happen!"
"But if you win?"
"Then I can be with Mason!" Alex said. Future-Alex signed in frustration. "No, you don't understand! If you become mortal, you can't be with Mason. If you do win your powers, you still can't be with Mason. Wizards cannot marry non-wizards! Wizards have to marry wizards!"
Alex sat on her bed, cold with shock. She'll never be able to be with Mason forever. She can never marry him in an intimate ceremony, she can't have his children, she won't ever grow old with him…
Alex looked at the fuming woman in front of her. This was her only chance…how could she save her future self? She chocked out four words.
"What do I do?"
Future-Alex looked down at her.
"You have to run away."
