"Give it back, Vinnie!" Russell growled, reaching forward to grab his friend's wrist. But Vinnie reflexes were quick, and he managed to turn before Russell grabbed hold of him.
"Hey, you said I could have some!" cried Vinnie, clutching the chocolate chip cookie to his chest.
"No, I didn't!" Russell called out, before making his way towards Vinnie again.
Lunch had been pretty quiet at first. It was actually just the two of them—Penny was helping Zoe study for a science test, Minka was eating lunch with Olive, and Sunil had the flu. Yes, it had started off peacefully, but it wasn't long before it became hectic.
"I said give it back!" Russell reached to grab the cookie, but it was no use. Vinnie had longs arms, and was just a little taller than Russell overall. Russell took a few more steps forward, cornering Vinnie against the lockers.
"Back off! It's mine." Vinnie pressed his back against the lockers, holding the cookie high in the air.
Russell stood on the tips of his toes, stretching his arms out as far as it would reach. Still, his fingertips only reached the bottom of Vinnie's palm.
"Oh, come on!" he grumbled, bouncing on his toes in a desperate attempt to retrieve his snack. Vinnie chuckled, and the cookie lowered ever so slightly…
Now.
Lifting one leg up, Russell leaned forward on the very tip of his toe, stretching his arm out so far it ached. But in his spell of determination, he didn't notice just how close for comfort they had gotten.
That is, until he felt Vinnie's breath on his lips, and it was warm…
… And one of them must have leaned forward a little, because their lips just barely pressed together…
Russell took a big step back, feeling his cheeks burn. Something shuddering pounded against his chest, and he saw his face reflected in Vinnie's eyes.
Russell's first kiss—gone.
The cookie falls like a rock, but shatters like glass.
