Something Blue
"John, could you come here a moment?"
John had stopped by the flat to pick up Sherlock and had slipped into the bathroom to adjust his tie one more time. Something in Sherlock's voice made John leave the tie and head towards the bedroom.
"What is it? You haven't lost the rings, have you?" He said, seeing as Sherlock was rummaging through his socks.
"Oh no, nothing like that. It's just um-" he straightened up, a small box clutched tightly in his hand. "I- I noticed Mary was nervous yesterday so I thought I'd-"
"Oh Jesus, she's nervous? That's just great, Sherlock, that's not what I needed to hear right now"
"No, she was only afraid that she wouldn't have everything"
"Wouldn't have everything?" John was just puzzled now.
"Here." Sherlock thrust the small box at him.
"What is this?" he asked, opening it.
"I thought she might have it. As a gift. It's from one of my cases. The stone is not yet twenty years old. It was found in the banks of the Amoy River in southem China and is remarkable in having every characteristic of the carbuncle except instead of being ruby red like most-"
John smiled. He understood now. "Something old…"
"-something new…"
"Something borrowed -"
They both started laughing and in unison cried out,
"Something blue!"
Reviews always welcome.
