Dennis walked down the corridor thinking about his day so far. It was one of his faveourite days of the year, his birthday. His parents and grandpa were just as excited as he was, possibly more excited. They had covered every inch of the hotel in banners and balloons. It was great but this year his human family couldn't come this year for some reason.
He tried to concentrate on where he was going but he every time he tried he would get distracted; he had already walked into 6 zombies, 5 guests and had broken half the plates in the kitchen. He had been banned from going anywhere close to the rooms, the kitchen, anywhere that there was stuff that was fragile.
He had spent all morning surrounded by people, but the one person he hadn't seen was the person he wanted to see most in the world. Winnie.
Dennis was jolted out of his thoughts when he was tackled to the floor by a teenage wolf. "Hey, strawberry locks."
"Hey, Winnie." He said with a smile. "Maybe we should go somewhere else, somewhere more private."
Winnie stared at him confused, "Where, exactly is more private than here?" Dennis looked around at his surroundings. They were in one of the secret hallways. No one ever came here apart from the two of them, it had become there secret meeting place.
"Oh."
"Happy birthday my zing! I got you a present."
"Where is it? And where were you? I couldn't find you."
"Your present will have to wait till later and your second question will be answered soon."
"Um, okay?" He wondered what she was being so mysterious about.
"Until then, what do you want to do?"
"Could I stand up?"
"Oh, right." She got off him so he could stand. "What now?"
"I have an idea." He moved closer to her and pressed his lips to hers.
...
Winnie sighed, "As much as I would love to stay here like this, we have to go."
"Why?" Dennis whined, "It can't be that important."
"It is."
"Fine," He huffed, "What exactly is it?"
"Your birthday present. Well, part of it."
...
The couple walked into the lobby and for once the place was empty. Or so Dennis thought.
"Happy birthday Dennis!" Everyone jumped out of their hiding spaces. The first people he noticed were his human grandparents.
"You came!" Dennis exclaimed.
"Of course we came, we wouldn't miss our grandson's birthday for the world."
"Dennis," Winnie said, "you can open your present now."
Dennis carefully took the wrapped box from Winnie. They had a tradition of getting each other gifts that would embarrass the other. He opened the box and cringed when he saw what was inside.
