Of Love and Death
She stood in front of the window and stared into the starry sky. The view she saw was beautiful, yet she did not feel well at all. She had not been feeling well since last year. It had been a year since he was gone. He was the one that drove her crazy in love, the one whom she had been staying with.
She remembered the day when she fell in tears again, the 28th day in the previous month. It was the very same day one year ago when he died, Matsuda told her. His mother and sister went to the graveyard that day, where she had been staying the night before.
She could tell the time when she last smiled, on 28th February, in the previous year. It was his birthday, yet he was gone forever, away from her side. "Happy birthday," She whispered to the photo which he took with her.
Strangely, she did not remember many of the times she spent with him. There were gaps between events, and she could not remember what had happened in the gaps. All she was certain of was that he had promised to marry her, and asked her to quit her works. He had promised her, yet the promise would not be fulfilled forever.
There had been a man five years ago, whom he worked with to solve the Kira case. She had participated in the case too, yet she had no idea how it ended. The strange man with strange eating habits had mysteriously disappeared in the gaps of her memories. She was not keen to find out who he really was, though.
In the photograph that she was holding, there were three people. One of them was her, one of them was the strange man with strange habits, and the last one was her love. They shot the photo when they were working together. She still remembered how he refused to take the photo, while the strange man refused to put down the sweets until she threw them away with a laugh.
She seemed to know a monster when she was helping him with his investigation. That monster claimed to have worked with her, and the monster helped quite a bit in solving the case. She had already forgotten the monster's name though. Why would she remember something silly like that?
She did not remember the exact details of how she met him. She remembered visiting Aoyama that day, and saw him with a crowd of youngsters and a man older than everyone else as she was sitting in a café. Strangely, as she saw him, she suddenly knew his name. She could not figure out how she knew his name at all. But then, it did not matter on how she loved him.
But everything had passed; he was gone. He passed away because of a mysterious killer, the Kira which had helped her to kill the criminal that murdered her parents.
The bells rang: it was midnight, the start of a new day. It was 14th February, Valentine's Day, the most blissful day of lovers. She turned to the things that she had set up earlier, and smiled.
"I'm coming," She kissed the photo and whispered. "Wait for me."
She then placed the photo back onto the table. She looked at the stunning night view of the real world again, then turn away from it with a smile; a blissful smile.
Later that day, a case of committing suicide was being reported.
"Misa Amane had hanged herself in her apartment in a wedding dress."
