Disclaimer: I do not own Pretear

She thought she knew what she wanted.

She was admired by many, not just because of her family's vast amount of wealth, but her beauty and classical charm was both the subject of envy and admiration of the ones around her.

But even then...

She felt she was all alone.

Alone on the pedestal others had placed her on. The pedestal, which she would gladly destroy if only to fill the void in her life.

But, unfortunately, she was fragile. Only a glass figure ready to shatter at the slightest brush of the hand.

Too afraid of rejection from the loved ones closest to her, she swallowed her fears, her anxieties, her longings, and she locked them away tightly in a box in her heart.

And so she waited.

Waited for someone to fill the loneliness in her heart. To rip down the pedestal. To stop her from breaking.

To see her, just her.

The day came when she thought she found the one who could unlock her tiny box.

His voice was soothing. She could feel his understanding, the acknowledgement of the emotions laying underneath the black inked lines he read.

And when he sang to her replies she truly felt that he set free her innermost feelings from their tiny box.

She didn't feel repressed, she didn't feel the weight of the pedestal, she didn't feel she was fragile.

All she could feel was pure emotion.

In these moments she could love herself. In these moments she was sure and confident. In these moments she knew she was not alone.

Most of all...

She loved him.

However, the love was not meant to last.

They met, face to face, and he told her the truth.

She did not love him, for her heart had been taken by another while she had not been aware. He could not heal her.

His words, they shattered her. Tiny pieces of her love fell with chimes of small bells singling the end of her once existence, and she was not willing to pick up the pieces.

She didn't want to feel the pain again.

So she closed herself off. Pushed her supposed love away and alienated herself once more.

However she could not get rid of the embers, waiting to smolder into flames.
It persisted in its dark corner, waiting patiently till fate played its hand.

And so fate did.

One mistake, one selfish act, sent her loved ones spiraling down.

She had to mend the rift, but she didn't have the power. Only one person she knew did.

So she opened herself once more.

Begging on her knees, her hands clutching desperately to the one who was said to be her love.

All the while she feared for her already shattered self.

But...

She was not rejected. She was seen. She was heard. She was accepted.

Most of all...

She was loved.

Her love saved her other loved ones, and not only that, her loved one saved her.

So, slowly the pieces came back to her.

She stepped down from the pedestal.

She stopped fearing the rejection.

Love bloomed in her heart.

Whenever she was with her love, her heart soared and she smiled proudly.

And whenever she saw him, he first love, he would smile at her and she would smile back at him.

For, perhaps he was not her destined, but he was something more.

He was the guide to her heart.

And for that, she was eternally grateful.
