"Maybe...we are looking for the same thing, but we don't realize it," Said Athrun.
"Yeah...Athrun, are you finally starting to...let go of your stubborn side?" asked Kira.
They were on the deck of Archangel.
"No..." Athrun said. "Because, that means I no longer believe in something lying beyond what we have now."
"You believe...in something beyond?" said Kira. "But...what if there is nothing beyond?"
"Then...I'm be fine as dust after everything in this life."
Athrun continued.
"I don't know what I should do as a person...I know, as a son, I need to please my parents. As a soldier, I need to listen to orders and accomplish them. But as a person...I have no actual desire."
Kira smiled. "I'll be dust with you."
Athrun looked at him.
"Because, you know why? I don't know what lies beyond either. I'll turn into dust with you. Athrun...I...know what I want as a person. As a son, I'm lazy. As a soldier, I listen to my own heart. As for being a person..."-Fllay flashed through his mind-"I want to protect."
Kira said.
"I think I only am good at being a person. That's all I know."
"Kira..."
"We'll be there again, against P.L.A.N.T. still. You...better be prepared. Otherwise...we'll really be nothing but dust."
"Is it because…there nothing lies beyond."
"Maybe."
"But…even if there is nothing lying beyond. Is it that bad?"
Said Kira.
"Because…as a person, I don't want someone precious to me perish before my eyes. Even if I know she's most likely beyond, it still pains me. That's why, I don't care."
Athrun looked at Kira.
Some time later, he finally nodded.
"Yes."
