Alive

She could not breathe.

Why should she, though? She was going to die soon, so soon, she was already becoming numb, because that was easiest thing to do in her situation. She was going to die, but her death would give little happiness and a new chance to her world.

She had known her destiny for a very long time – ever since she had been seven and had watched her father to go, tall man in his funny robes and two odd man in his company.

She had known, so she hadn't dreamed about a love of her life, or about children they were going to have, or about a pretty house where they all would live, like normal young girls did.

No, her goal was to be like her father – her brave, determined father. She wanted to give people little hope, just like her father had ten years ago.

It was not her duty to breath – it never had been. She would be dead soon enough, ready to go to Farplane and join the ones she had loved – her mother and father, and oh, kind and always protective Chappu. She would have to leave many of her loved ones to Spira, but at least she had given them hope, the most precious thing in the world, and they could breath, yes, that was all she needed to know.

Rikku, her baby cousin, Lulu, her almost-big sister, Wakka, the one who made her smile, Kimahri, her protector, sweetest thing that had ever walked on Spira, Auron, stiff and little scary, but so, so important to her, and Tidus, funny and confused little Tidus, who didn't know the truth about their journey's ending, but made her happy just because he didn't know.. Yes, they would be able to breath even after she was gone.

So she continued, travelled closer and closer to Zanarkand, to the city of his dreams, to the ending of her story – their story.

And she was so, so, so scared when they finally reached Zanarkand, too scared to even smile anymore, suddenly she wanted to continue breathing for days and weeks and years, she wanted to live, but couldn't, because that had never been expected from her – she'd have to fill her duty, she couldn't betray those people, who believed in her.

But in the end she was breathing, she was alive and even though her heart was bleeding, it was still beating.
