Hey whoever reads this. This is my first story, so don't judge TOO hard.
When Ruby had heard that her mother was dead, she thought the messenger had gone insane. How could Scarlet be dead? It just didn't make sense. Queen Scarlet. Her mother. THE QUEEN WHO HAD SURVIVED FOURTEEN CHALLENGERS AND KILLED THEM ALL. What on Pyrrhia could have killed her? What could have freed her daughters?
As it turned out, not what, but who. The little RainWing her mother had been keeping for decoration, of all things. Ruby couldn't blame the dragonet, the queen had been keeping her chained to a stone tree. In fact, she was almost relieved that it hadn't been her who had had to face her mother.
But still, the shock was incredible. It had taken her several days just to accept the fact that her mother, queen of the SkyWings, one of the longest living queens they had ever had, was dead. Several weeks to accept that SHE was now queen, and she still hadn't accepted that a RainWing had killed her. How would a RainWing do that?! When she asked, ALL the witnesses claimed she had shot some kind of acid thing out of her TEETH. Ruby hadn't been sure what to think of that.
But Ruby was a SkyWing, and SkyWings happen to be loyal. She almost missed her mother, missed the commanding, regal presence who was oddly kind to her dragonets. She had long ago admitted to herself that she wouldn't really know what to do without Scarlet there to help correct her mistakes. Not to say she enjoyed being around her. All of her dragonets freely admitted that their mother was- had been a maniac.
Scarlet had, after all, encouraged her dragonets to fight one another, and none of them could ever forget the scarring sight of their mother visciously killing fourteen of their sisters, then turning to grin with bloodstained teeth at the rest of her dragonets, as if to signal that one day the bloodied body lying on the sands in front of her would be one of them. She had ruled her kingdom and her family using fear, and Ruby had been determined that she would not, would never be the same.
But at the end of the day, Ruby wasn't glad that the queen had been killed. She wasn't sure she could ever be. Because despite her many flaws, Scarlet had been her mother, and Ruby had loved her
This probably isn't realistic, but the idea popped into my head and I wanted to write it. Review please! Plus this is a oneshot for now, but if I get enough reviews, I will continue it. Not about Ruby, but other side characters throughout the series. Um, that's it for now, folks!
