Written as a present for a friend over at LJ, who was suffering from insomnia. What better way to cheer them up than to write them a fic? My first attempt at a flashfic, but I'm relatively pleased with how it turned out.
Title: InsomniaRating: PG…. erm, I think that equates to K…
Pairing: HitsuMatsu

Hitsugaya sighed and rolled over on his futon. It had to be at least 3am and he hadn't had a wink of sleep all night. It wasn't for lack of trying; the week had dragged on slowly and, eager for it to be over, he had gone to bed early with the intent of sleeping for as long as humanly possible. Alas, it was not to be. Growling in frustration, he turned over again and prodded the large, snoring lump that was currently residing beside him on the futon.
"Oi, wake up"
A groan, and a sudden chill as the offending lump pulled the rest of the blankets snugly around itself. Hitsugaya's scowl deepened, then morphed into a slightly sadistic grin as he delivered a swift kick across the futon and was rewarded with a yelp of pain.
"Wha' did you do that for? I'm trying to sleep."
"You're trying to sleep? What about me? For pity's sake, Matsumoto, this is my bed."
There was a moment of silence then, "Speaking of which, what the hell are you doing in my bed in the first place?" Whilst Hitsugaya was certain that Matsumoto had mumbled some reason or other when she had climbed into his bed several hours previously, spending such a large amount of time next to his busty lieutenant with nothing between then but a thin blanket had filled his mind with fog, not to mention several thoughts which were highly inappropriate for a captain to be thinking about his subordinate.
Matsumoto's answer was to roll over and throw an arm sleepily around her captain's shoulders, pulling him close to her, her body warm with sleep. "Your bed's more comfy" she mumbled into his tousled silver hair, maintaining her grip on him.
Hours later, as he drifted slowly off to sleep, the warmth from his vice captain surrounding him and the sun just beginning to peek over Sereitei, Hitsugaya mused that there were worse things in the world than insomnia.
