"Hawkeye..." He whispered softly, his voice hardly concealing the dark curiousity that prompted him to continue, "..Do you believe in God?"

She was caught off guard, and had she not been such an in-control woman, she would have caused the car that she was driving the colonel home in to swerve off the road. What a random thing to ask...Her eyes flicked up to the rearview mirror, peering at her superior with a puzzled expression. "Eh?"

"You know...God...Do you believe in any of that religious stuff?"

Riza heaved a sigh. He must be in one of THOSE moods...The moods in which he questions his role in society, his role in the UNIVERSE...And begins to contradict any certain meaning to life at all. Then, those thoughts would tunnel a path that opened the door to the abyss of his Ishbal regrets...And then things would get messy, and not just by tears.

"Why do you ask, sir?" She calmly inquired.

He shrugged, resting his cheek on his right hand, and sighing himself. "Just wondering...You know, if you have an opinion about...Life."

"Well, I can tell you that..." Riza paused, and then smiled sadly. "I don't."

"Don't believe in God?"

"Correct."

"Ah...Why?"

Now she was perplexed. She thought the Colonel would praise her for going along with what he usually claimed; that he was a devout athiest...Why was he questioning her now?

"Because..." She swallowed. "Because, well...I'm just not a passionate believer in religion. I think it tears people apart, and gives them reasons to declare wars upon each other..."

Roy smiled. "Exactly my point...But then...Would you consider love a religion, Hawkeye?"

"Love is merely an emotion, sir. Emotions are not religions. There is a complete difference."

"Yes, but you can believe in love, and be passionate in it...Right? Some people worship love, because without it...There'd be nothing. There would be repeats of Ishbal, everywhere...All the time..."

"Well then, do YOU consider love a religion, sir?"

"Of course. If you're with the right person...Then sometimes you fall into a pattern of worshipping them as your deity...Your savior...Afterall, where would we be without those we loved?" His eyes met hers through the rearview mirror.

"Have you found the right person?" she asked softly.

"Yes...I believe I have." His voice was laced with confidence.

"Ah." A pang of hurt rang deep within her chest. She didn't mean for her vocalization to be so...Forlorn...

"Have you?"

Without thinking, she admitted she had.

"Who is it, Hawkeye?" Roy's eyes narrowed. "If I may ask, that is."

"Just...someone."

Silence.

"I wish you luck, then."

"And the same for you, sir."

She pulled over in front of his small, cramped house. "We're here, sir."

He hesitated, then pressed his lips to her cheek in affection. She stiffened in surprise, then turned her head, allowing his lips to be dragged to her own.

After a moment of idle kissing, Roy pulled back, suddenly confident and smug. "Consider that your goodnight kiss, Lieutenant."

Riza couldn't contain the blush that spilled over her cheeks, and attempted to appear stoic. "Why thank you, sir."

"Don't mention it."

He saluted, before stepping out of the car and disappearing in the night.

And boy, was Riza's heart pounding.
