"I heard you were looking for samurai for the war." said a strange woman at
the enrollment desk. She had red hair that was pale blonde at the roots.
Her eyes were a brilliant green, a green that no one can describe, bright
almost neon green.
"Who's enrolling?" asked the man sitting there. She cocked her head and he
laughed, "You! Ha who ever heard of a woman samurai?" In an instant she had
her sword out and at his neck.
"Why the hell do you challenge my skill when you obviously can't match it?"
she asked softly and angrily. Her eyes had an eerie red glow to them that
wasn't there before.
"Very well, then. If you can defeat, no, just knock him to the ground, our
best swordsman, then I will enroll you." He motioned to a guy next to him
and that man ran off somewhere. He came back with another man who had red
hair and blue eyes and looked like a nice guy. For a moment they just stood
there each other, then he charged. She dodged his attack so fast you
couldn't see her, and when she reappeared,
Kenshin had a large cut on his back. He charged again and she jumped into
the air. Amazingly, he blocked her attack.
"You are very good, Samurai" she said, still in the air, "What is your name?"
"Kenshin Himura." He was starting to sweat. Then with out warning, she dropped to the ground, tripped him, and had her sword at his neck. He laughed his humble, nice guy laugh, got up, and held out his hand for her to shake. She ignored it and slapped a piece of paper on the sign in desk. Then she walked to the far end of the field, as far away from the sign in desk as possible. Kenshin stared after her with his hand still up. "What an untrusting character, that she is." He said, his hand still up. "Untrusting. What?" said a guy near him.
In the first few days, some men tried to steal some of her things and take advantage of her. Those men usually ended up with a black eye and a broken limb. She got in trouble for that as soon as it happened.
"Look little girl, we don't mind a few black eyes and maybe a broken finger or even a hand, but a broken arm doesn't heal in a week!" said the captain of the central camp (where they are at now). She took advantage of this conversation.
"And I'm not in this war for anyone. I'm just here for the fun of killing people! If you want, I'll just leave and go see if the other army will take me. Or maybe I'll just kill from both sides."
"Oh, no no no that's okay, we just don't want any broken bones."
"Well then tell them to stop messing with me!" she yelled, then she spotted Kenshin looked at them out of the corner of his eye, "What?!" she asked angrily. He turned slightly pink and looked away. She caught him staring at her many more times, hence his black eye. She never ate the food the cooks made, she always cooked her own food and it smelled wonderful. She was never selfish, if a man asked her politely for her food she always gave some to him. Those men always bragged about how good it was, and, eventually, most of the men in the camp were coming to her for food. Secretly, she was both pleased and annoyed. She hated going to the market to get food but she relished the thought that everyone loved her food. One day, Kenshin came up to her to ask her for something. She figured he was going to ask for food as an excuse to stare at her some more.
"What's your name?" he asked.
"What? My name.?" she said in a surprised voice. He was staring at the ground.
