Final Fantasy VIII, Seifer/Rinoa, & here comes that rush of lingering affection for him you thought had faded away.
xx
She considers herself one of the select few to find someone so utterly amazing.
It ended as quickly as it started though. He was going off to Balamb Garden, and she was stuck in a mansion with servants that whispered behind her back what they thought she did with that blond haired rogue.
("Her mother would've detested him.")
They both mutually agree to end it there, while their faces were still flushed from kissing for such a long, long, long, time.
("You'll find another, Rinoa. I know you. You'll forget all about this summer and me, and that'll be that.)
She laughs over that fact that she almost believed him.
xx
The first time she seems him after a year sends her mind reeling.
She remembers flowers and caresses and cliché declarations of love under a moonlight sky, and for how that whole summer he was hers, and she was his.
(& here comes that rush of lingering affection for him you thought had faded away)
She cannot look away from him: he's grown taller if possible, and his sparkling eyes, (those eyes she could stare into for hours on end) have dulled -become lifeless.
Then he sees her. She sucks in a shaky breath as he looks her over, remembering the places he used to kiss, used to touch, and used to hold. The sparkle returns to his eyes, like he's remembering a particular memory of her-
And then it fades.
It dies.
Like all things must eventually do.
("It's been too long, Rinoa.)
xx
("Promise me something Seifer?")
("Anything.")
("Promise me you'll never stop loving me?")
("I promise. Even if I don't show it, I'll always be thinking about how much I love you.")
