The feeling knocked her flat. In all her missions and all her time away from home she had never felt like this. The coffee she had ten minutes before threatened to come spewing out of her mouth, but with all of her training she managed to keep the bile down. She felt awful.
She thought about going to sickbay knowing that she would receive only a lecture from the Doctor. It was not like her to display weakness; it was against her training, not to mention her upbringing. She stared out at the stars, the feeling intensified. She sighed she was going to have to go to sickbay or throw up on the carpet.
The sickbay doors swooshed open and the Doctor met her.
"Captain, you don't look well."
"I'm not."
"Symptoms?"
"Nausea, headache, that's about it."
The Doctor quickly scanned her with a tricorder. Then he said,
"Captain there is nothing wrong with you physically."
"I know."
The Doctor raised an eyebrow.
"Then why come to me?" he asked gently, sensing now that something was troubling her."
"I'm homesick," she admitted.
"Unfortunately there is no medical remedy for that," he said.
She nodded absently.
"Come with me," the Doctor said.
He led her to the holodeck.
"Computer activate Doctor program J2."
There was a beep and they entered the holodeck. Kathryn couldn't believe her eyes. There before her was the farm in Indiana.
"How did you-?"
"I did some digging into the database about your home. Everyone needs a get away place, this can be yours if you like."
She turned to him with tears in her eyes.
"Thank you," she said giving him a hug. In that moment he was as human as anyone on her ship.
