A/N: Hi everyone! Thank you so so so so so much for all of your support and help, I really appreciate it! I would like to give a special thanks to all of those awesome people who reviewed my story "Broken Promises" and liked it as well! TBH, I wasn't expecting this much support. So thanks so much you guys! You really made my day! People have these things called 'Shout outs' and from what I have gathered, it is basically responding to the reviews that have been sent. So...ummm...yeah... I guess I will do that now... so... yeah.
SHOUT OUTS!
Malcom7128: I know right! It was a very dark story and I don't know why I wrote it! It actually came to me in a dream because I am addicted to Hiccstrid and HTTYD and that is all I ever dream about! It was really creepy and angsty in my imagination so 'Broken Promises' is like a softened version of what I envisioned! Thanks so much for reviewing the story, even though it was only one word- it meant a lot to me!
Pineapples16: I know I am (not) awesome so thank you for saying that! I don't exactly know WHY I clicked favourite and reviewed my own story but it was fun nonetheless! You are so awesome too and I can't wait to read your next story!
Bahall1964:I am glad you enjoyed the story! I agree- it was very dark and angsty. I was going to do another evil story but I saw your review and took your advice! This will actually be about Hiccup and Astrid's friendship before Hiccup was declared the worst Viking in history!
So... ON WITH THE STORY! Oh and P.S. Disclaimer: I don't own How To Train Your Dragon! That belongs to Dreamworks and Cressida Cowell!
Two sets of tiny feet pattered across the hard rocky ground of Berk as the sun just peeked over the horizon. Laughter rang out in the air as two young children ran across the open fields and woke up everyone in the village with the loud noises.
"You can't catch me!" Hiccup shouted gleefully as Astrid chased him around the Village Square, laughing along with his friend. "Of course I can! I am the bestest runner alive in the whole widest world!" Astrid countered back, certain that no one could be the 'bestest' athlete except for her.
Astrid finally came to a stop after an hour of trying and failing to catch Hiccup and held her hands up to signal defeat. "Okay Hiccup! You win! You ARE the fastest out of the two of us! You can come out of your hiding place now!" Slowly, Hiccup emerged from behind a thin pole, gasping and wheezing for air. "Told you I could win!" Hiccup tiny fist punched the air, happy that Astrid finally gave in.
"But that doesn't mean I'm not going to to get revenge!" Astrid yelled and before Hiccup could react, she playfully tackled him to the ground. Hiccup yelped as she jumped on top of him and they rolled through the grassy fields, determined to win the tackle-fest that Astrid had begun.
Eventually, the duo came to a stop, just by the edge of the cliff, with Astrid sitting on top of Hiccup. "Ha ha! Now we're even!" Astrid boomed triumphantly, for she had won the tackle-fest.
Hiccup gave her a playful scowl and gently pushed Astrid of him. For the rest of the day, Astrid and Hiccup absorbed themselves in games and having fun together.
No matter how many times Astrid's parents tried to pry them away from each other, worried that it would send a bad image to the family when people saw the might and fearless Hofferson clan associate themselves with the weak fishbone Hiccup, Astrid kept relenting and shoving her parents aside, insisting that she and Hiccup were having a great time. She simply thought that her parents were worried that she wasn't having fun, however, Hiccup knew the real reason why her parents were trying to drag her away from him. But Hiccup didn't want to ruin the fun they were having so he kept his mouth shut.
The sun was just setting over the horizon when the two friends became too tired to continue playing and so walked up to a high cliff, leaning against one another, sighing with contentment.
The children looked up towards the beautiful swirl of colours in the sky and watched as the stars slowly started to appear in the clouds.
Astrid couldn't have been happier; she had spent another perfect day with her friend and she had a loving and caring family.
She was completely oblivious to the storm raging inside Hiccup's mind.
"Do you want to meet up tomorrow, again?" Astrid questioned, although she knew the answer was 'yes'. "Of course! Nothing could keep me away!" Hiccup assured her, secretly savouring the fact that she wanted to hang out with him, despite her parents warnings. Astrid gave him a beautiful smile as hope and joy shimmered in her baby blue eyes and Hiccup gave her a cute dorky smile, his forest green eyes glimmering in the moonlight. Hiccup suddenly realised he needed to ask her something important- something that had been gnawing at his heart ever since he realised why Astrid's parents didn't like them hanging out together. He started shuffling around and twiddling his fingers, unsure of how to ask the question he desperately needed to ask Astrid. He eventually decided to just come out clean and say what was on his mind.
"Astrid?" He murmured, looking down at the floor. Oh man! How was she going to react to this?
"Yes, Hiccy?" she replied cheerfully. However, seeing his forlorn expression, her mood quickly turned from excited to worried and she nervously bit her lip.
"I… I think your parents hate me." He stuttered quietly, secretly hoping she didn't hear him. But luck decided that it wasn't on his side, because poor Astrid heard every single word that he said.
"What do you mean? My parents are happy that we are having fun together Hiccy! They don't hate you!" The young girl replied, clearly confused as to where Hiccup would've gotten that idea from. "Yes, they do!" Hiccup replied, unhappily. "I heard them talking to each other. They said that they didn't like that you are playing with a scrawny, weak fishbone like me! They said that I am a disappointment to Berk and that I'd ruin your family image if I continued to hang out with you!" Hiccup finished, now on the verge of tears.
Astrid couldn't believe it! She knew that Hiccup would never lie to her so she knew he was telling the truth. However, the more she thought about it, the more sense it made; it would certainly explain why her parents kept trying to pry her away from her friend, and it would also explain the dirty looks that her family sent to Hiccup whenever they were passing by. Astrid noticed Hiccup staring anxiously at her, clearly afraid of what she would think of what he had told her. To be honest, she was feeling a range of emotions she couldn't quite place, however, she definitely didn't like that queasy feeling in her stomach that had settled in.
All of a sudden, she knew what she was feeling: Anger. Fury. Resentment. Not to Hiccup; to her family. All of her life, she had thought that her parents cared about her and that was why they asked her to move away from Hiccup. But in reality, all they cared about was their stupid honour and pride! She couldn't, NO; wouldn't let poor Hiccup think he was worthless and she had a few certain choices of words that she was planning to use when she got home to her family. Oh, she would say what was on her mind, but first, she had to talk to a certain someone.
"Hiccup? Who cares what my parents say? They are meanie poos and they shouldn't hate you! You are my bestest friend and if they hate you, they hate me, too!" Astrid declared proudly, hoping that this would make Hiccup feel better. Apparently, it worked, because before she knew what was happening, she was engulfed in a big warm hug. "Thank you Astrid, you are the best!" Hiccup squealed excitedly, overjoyed that Astrid believed in him. He was worried she would think he was lying to make her mad at her family, so he had expected her to storm off and tell him that she hated him. But kind words? Resentment towards her family? He was NOT expecting that at all! He could not even begin to understand that! "I will see you tomorrow. Okay Hiccup?" Astrid gently broke the comfortable silence hanging in the air and slowly stood up, getting ready to go home. "Bye Astrid! See you later!" Hiccup positively beamed at her as he too, stood up and hugged her tightly, which she gladly returned. With one final wave, Astrid strolled home through the cold winter night and hoped 'tomorrow' would come soon.
And dear reader, if you happened to hear a young feminine voice echoing throughout the night, it was most likely our dear Astrid and her 'certain choice of words' when she walked through her door.
A/N: Thank you SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO much for reading my oneshot about Hiccup and Astrid's friendship and I hope you enjoyed! Plz review and I can't wait until next time!
