He stands in her doorway, her lab dimly lit compared to the contrast of the bare SGC hallways. The small lamp on her desk supplies enough light for late night reports and makes her blond hair glow.
He often stops at her door in passing, hoping she doesn't notice the dark figure invading her space.
A strand of blond hair escapes it's confines behind her ear; she leaves it for the moment.
When she is in her lab it is her element, as his is his cabin with the lake that has no fish. He stands silently, she stopped writing and lifts the pencil to her lips, the cool gold aluminum settles on soft pink.
Her lab is usually calm at this late hour. She finds running tests or writing reports more soothing than on her couch watching a late night television show, she wouldn't even care about. It's noise.
He shifts his weight and leans more into the door frame. One day she'll acknowledge his presence but for now she doesn't seem to notice.. or mind.
Just a few more calming moments; this is calm to him.. it is his escape from the of his office and work.
She lifts her head as if she notices the shadow cast on the harsh gray floors, she fixes the runaway strand of loose hair and goes back to work.
He turns and walks away; she says nothing. His eyes cast down, rounds the corner and bumps into Teal'c.
"O'Neill.."
She always gets a sense of when he is standing and watching. Maybe one day she will let her eyes meet his; and hold a comfortable silence.
