Fragile as Glass

Summary: He was lucky no one saw it earlier. Any great disguise could be ruined by the smallest details.

Timeline: Drabble. Set just after Shinichi's first case as Conan.

It wasn't until long after the young girl's kidnapping case—detective Mouri Kogoro's first break since Conan arrived on the scene—that the teen turned grade schooler caught onto his mistake.

Initially, both inhabitants of the Mouri detective agency were completely taken in by his guise as a seven year old child, though Conan had some lingering guilt (not to mention embarrassment about his current situation) about lying to Ran in such a way.

And as important as keeping his skills on the down-low was, he still hated placing the credit on the drunken shoulders of her father, who was enjoying his sudden pay break with near reckless abandon.

Naturally though, he had to be jarred back to reality.

Eventually Ran had asked Conan if there was something wrong with his glasses, causing a perplexed look spread across her face and long hair spilling over one shoulder. The boy had briefly spaced at the question with wide eyes, not immediately realizing exactly what she was getting at until a fierce bolt of understanding blazed through his mind, and barely avoided letting a violent curse fly past his lips.

Before the girl could ask him again, Conan was already out of his seat and running, throwing a quick explanation over at her. "I need to go tell the professor about the case! See you in a little while, Ran-neechan!"

By the time the child sleuth had returned from his very important visit, the crack in his disguise had been sealed up tight.

But still, Conan couldn't believe that he had overlooked such an important detail and forgotten so quickly.

After all, what kind of person, child nor not, wears glasses without lenses?

(A/N): This had to be noticed eventually. After all, Shinichi popped the lenses out of the glasses when he first found them and he can't keep wearing just frames forever.
