Just Watch and See
The cow's dead and a huge cat is jumping on me. Where did it come from! I fight to get it off of me only to feel pain shoot through my whole body as it's claws rip into my flesh and I feel at least one of my ribs breaking. I want to scream out but no words will come. I hear a gun going off; it has to be Heath's! After all; no one else was with us. Will I survive? Will I die? I do not know as I slip into oblivion-even though my eyes are wide open.
Where am I? My eyes are open; I see faces and hear a voice. Home; Heath must have gotten me home. I should know the voices but I can't seem to put the faces and voices together. Has to be more of my family. I cringe as someone turns me on my side; he is trying to help me; he apologizes-has to be the doctor. I try to speak but I can't get any words out. Why?
I hear a female's voice but it sounds distant and I'm in a fog. Trees, cattle and the cat! It's pacing back and forth; it's looking at me with a hunger in his eyes that actually unnerves me. Believe that one? Unnerves Nick Barkley? It has no right doing that!
"Nick!" I hear the worried tone in the voice; somehow it reaches through the fog that surrounds me; it's Audra-my sister. Somehow I need to reassure her-"Fine, Fine" I manage to say the words. She is satisfied; she speaks other words and leaves. I move my hand; I don't want to be alone but she is gone.
Alone I try to rest but that cat; that damn cat! It won't leave me alone; it comes after me again. This time I find my voice, I scream-I yell; I'm being held down. The cat it has me again! I scream again only to find myself being pinned down; slowly the fog lifts. It's not the cat. It's Heath, my brother, he's come to my rescue-again. How many times has he done that since coming into my life? I've lost count.
Somehow, seeing Heath-seeing his concern; knowing my family's concern...I relax. I'll be fine but so help me...that cat won't be once I find him! Just watch and see!
