The phone started to ring and I reached over the table near the end of the bed. I picked up the phone, not very happy that I got woken up from a very nice dream.
ÒHello?Ó asked a very deep voice. I jumped and almost dropped the phone.
ÒHello?Ó I responded, irked that this person startled me and and woke me up! I stood up and heard a squeak from my roommate's bed.
ÒIs this Miss Faith Cavendish?Ó asked the questioning voice from the other end of the line. I started to get irritated.
ÒWho is THIS?!?!?! Who is calling at this god$$# crazy late hour at night!?!?Ó I responded rudely. I felt like slamming the phone down and going back to bed.
ÒWell I know...Ó It felt like hours when I was having the conversation with Holden. My roommate flipped over onto her side toward me and looked at me.
ÒWho was that?Ó she asked me with a questioning look.
ÒSome person named Holden CaufieldÓ I responded lazily. I went and sat on the edge of my bed.
ÒWhat did that Holden want? And who the heck is Eddie Birdsell? IÕve never heard of him,Ó My roommate said, flopping onto her back.
ÒWell after awhile of talking, he wanted to go out for a cocktail. Cocktails are so nasty. Oh and I met Eddie Birdsell... at... a... party.Ó I said
ÒWhy did you say I was sick when I was not sick?Ó my roommate asked.
ÒBecause I did not want to goÓ I responded.
My roommate looked at me and said, ÒIÕve heard of Holden, he goes to Pency, with Stradlater. I dated Stradlater once. It did not turn out that well. He decided to date one of the other girls at his school. God that $$ was such a...Ó
ÒI donÕt care about Stradlater, you dope!Ó I interrupted my roommate. She grumbled and glared at me. I glared right back and the phone started to ring. I got up in a huff and pulled the cord for the phone out of the wall. I went back and laid on my bed, to try and go back to sleep.
ÒWhy the heck did you do that Faith!?!Ó barked my roommate.
ÒJust shut the heck up!!!Ó I barked back. She shut her trap and I guess went back to sleep. I could not fall asleep because my roommate had me thinking about why I pulled the cord out of the wall. I eventually put it aside to wait until morning to think about it.
