A/N: A tiny, tiny oneshot form Jack's point of view during the last scene of "The End". Wrote it at 4 am this morning, so beware of mistakes and nonsensical language. I warned ya' :)
Disclaimer: I sadly own nothing...
You lead me through the dark
Stepping in to the church, he's amazed at all the familiar faces that greet him. He's still confused, but it fades as John steps up and shakes his hand with a warm, understanding smile "We've been waiting for you."
His tears have dried and he cannot help his smile as he joins in the reunion. He's met with unexpected happiness, understanding, gratitude and love. Hate, anger and misunderstanding no longer exist between any of them. It's all part of the past. Of another life. Here, wherever that was, all was forgiven.
And finally... Finally he sees her face in the midst of all the others. And he's a fool. A stubborn fool for not having recognised her before recognised her touch, her smile, her eyes, or the feelings she has always invoked in him.
She comes to him slowly, reaching her hand out to his, with a smile he now knows was always meant for him. Her touch is soft and warm when she takes his hand in hers and a familiar spark surges through him. A spark reminding him of crashing waves and warm sand. And he knows without a doubt that he'll never be lost again.
No words are needed as she leads him to a pew in the front. He sits down with her and she scoots as close as possible leaving no space between them. And he watches, mesmerised, as she slowly puts her hand over his, lacing their fingers together. Completing him. Completing them.
"I love you." She whispers, biting her lip as she leans even closer. Desire sizzles in the air between them. And he laughs, unable to contain the joy he's feeling.
His father approaches and puts a hand on his shoulder for a moment before walking away. The weight of it is comforting and his remaining doubt and confusion fades away. And he's grateful. Grateful for this moment, for this chance. Grateful that in the end his faith had been justified. Grateful that everything really did happen for a reason and what he did had mattered.
The opening of doors echo behind them and a bright warm light spills into the room. He looks at Kate again, savouring the tender look of delight in her eyes as the light envelops them. He was dying only a moment ago, a lifetime ago, but all he sees and feels now is her. He could look at her forever. Drown in her forever. Her beauty, love and compassion forever overwhelming him. She is everything. She's his salvation. She's his hope.
She's eternity.
"I love you."
It is unbelievably hard to do the finale any kind of justice. But I hope you like this anyway :)
