My first QAF fic. I wanted to go for something a bit different, so it was a tossup between a Ted/Justin slasher, and Emmett having a crack at parenthood. Enjoy;-)

Disclaimer: I do not own Queer As Folk and its characters. Estelle is mine.

All I Need

By LTP-girl

Emmett slid his hands into his Jacket pockets in face of the winter cold, standing outside the small building of the kindergarten, along with other shivering parents, awaiting the opening of the double doors and the mad scramble of children eager to greet their parents.

He had come a long way from dancing on tabletops at Woody's, and sashaying his way through crowds full of gorgeous young studs at Babylon. He no longer found interest in spending his measly pay checks, the commission he received from working at Torso, on snazzy outfits or the hottest Barbara tickets. He no longer needed the reassurance of being hit on by every twink, hunk, and bear that happened to cross his path on frequent night on the town, or be showered with beautiful things, be wined and dined at extravagant restaurants, or taken on once-in-a-lifetime trips around the world by rich sugar daddies. He didn't need any of that. Not any longer, anyway. All he ever needed was right here in Pittsburgh.

He smiled at the small girl who was skipping towards him with her arms outstretched in an embrace.

He crouched down to hold her in his arms. "Hey Estelle, how was preschool today?" he greeted with an enthusiastic smile.

They parted, and she handed him a folded piece of paper. "It was fun today, Daddy," she replied. "I did a drawing."

He took the piece of paper from her outstretched hand and opened it. "Oh, sweetie this is lovely," he said, admiring the colourful image resembling a family portrait of stick figures, identifying the tall one clad in a colourful shirt as himself, the one with brown hair and holding a calculator as his partner, Ted, and the little one in between the taller figures as Estelle. "We should show Daddy Teddy this as soon as we get home, and after that, we'll stick it on the refrigerator."

He folded the piece of paper up, and placed it safely inside Estelle's backpack. He took her hand in his, as they made their way out of the gates surrounding the yard, and strolled down the snow covered sidewalk.

"Why don't we pay Granma Debby a visit at the Liberty Diner, and stop for a lemon bar and hot chocolate?" Emmett suggested.

"Okay," Estelle agreed, nodding with a cheerful smile.

Sunshine through broken clouds reclaimed the two figures as they continued dawdle along the path.

Emmett stared down at the small girl latching onto his hand, now contently dragging her feet into the snow as she walked, leaving a trail behind her. Yep, Emmett thought to himself. All I need is right here.
