Okay everyone, this is my first attempt at a Frozen story so please be gentle. It will take place in the years leading up to the coronation and then through the events of the movie. I am editing all on my own so there are bound to be some grammatical errors. If so, I am deeply sorry and will do my best to remedy them in time. I hope you enjoy!

5 years before coronation

The king sat on his throne, deep in thought. His eyes scanned the letter before him, unsure of how to proceed. The whole thing was unorthodox to begin with, and adding on his daughters powers only made the issue worse. He let out a deep sigh, placed the letter on his desk, stood up, and began pacing.

His wife, Iduna, watched him carefully. "Agnarr, dear, what has gotten you into such a state?"

He gave a tired smile. "Its nothing darling, just a notice from Western Isles. The ship has left, and they are expected to arrive within a week."

Iduna sat up, intrigued. "I thought you were going to call it off? Elsa, she's not ready for this."

"She's 16, its time she started meeting with suitors." He sounded pained as he said this, and his wife picked up on it.

"Can she control herself yet? Are we putting innocent people at risk by attempting this? I know she is to be queen, and that comes with responsibilities, but what if she is simply not ready for this kind of contact? I want whats best for our daughter Agnarr and I don't think that setting her up with strangers will turn out well."

She gave him a pointed glare, and her husband sighed yet again. He approached her slowly, dropping to his knees in front of her chair. Taking her hands in his, he kissed her knuckles gently before drawing them close to his chest. "I know, love." He rubbed his thumb gently over her hand, keeping his eyes downcast, watching the movement. "It isn't strangers though, just one. And from what I've heard, it will be a good pairing." He hesitated in his speaking. "I know it is not the most…usual…of suitors, but perhaps it will please Elsa. If nothing else, she will have a friend."

Iduna freed her hands from his, and tilted his head upwards, so that he was making eye contact with her. "I love our daughter, you know I do, but Agnarr, if nothing else, Elsa could hurt…could kill…" Her voice broke, shaking.

He wrapped her into a hug, petting her hair, whispering soothing words. "Elsa is not a monster, she will not harm anyone. Her control is good, she conceals her feelings well and has had no outbursts in the past 3 years. I know we keep her locked away, but there is no need for it, and she knows that. Her fears keep her hidden. Someone to talk to, someone from that outside that will care for her, that could change that."

"Assuming the suitor likes her."

He laughed. "My dear, you and I both know it is impossible not to like her. She is just as likable as Anna, just in a different way." Pausing he said, "I know you want this courtship to occur, and I know you talked it through with me to help ease my worries. Thank you." He pulled back. "Its late, lets heard to bed. We can start preparations in the morning."

The princess stood at the edge of the ship, gazing into the waters below. Her brown hair cascaded down her back in waves, curling at the end. Despite her tanned skin, her face was red from the constant sun from the past few days. The wind blew, and she turned away from the salty air. Glancing back up again, she took in the view of the village they were approaching.

The kingdom of Arendalle was beautiful. The castle was grand, white bricks with green accents. It was large, and much of the town, and so it appeared human population, was located right outside the city walls. Looking out to the surrounding forests, the princess could understand why. As heir to a relatively desert centered island nation, forests were few and far between. Looking at the never-ending one was daunting, and she shuddered to think what it would look like covered in snow.

"Your highness?"

Turning around, the princess was face to face with the captain. She raised an eyebrow in question, and he hurriedly continued. "We will be docking shortly. Perhaps it would be best to go below deck and gather your things?"

She responded with a nod and slight grin. "Of course captain. Thank you."

Heading below, she cast a glance once more out at the beautiful kingdom. The princess was sent here by her father, in an attempt to both negotiate trade relations with Arendalle, and as a potential suitor for the crown princess. Although she knew next to nothing about Elsa, the Western Isles princess had high hopes. Something about coming to Arendalle felt right to her. It felt almost like coming home.

Anna waited impatiently at the gates of the castle. Her parents stood beside her, exchanging both amused and exasperated glances at the young princesses excited bouncing and rambling questions. They knew having a friend was as important to Anna as it would be to Elsa. The girl was lonely.

"I'm so excited! I know she's here for business of course so I won't bother her, not that I bother anyone, or I try not to but really I get so bored here…not that living in a castle is boring, its not its much better than living out on the streets, not that living in the streets is terrible although I'm sure its not very comfortable. although maybe it is i guess i have never really tried it." She took a breath before continuing. "What was I saying? Oh look there they come! I really hope she likes me! Maybe we can be friends? Not that you two aren't good friends to me but I really would enjoy…"

"Anna dear", her mother interrupted, "We understand. And I'm sure she will like you. Lets meet her, shall we? Try not to overwhelm her."

The younger princess nodded in determination. She would not scare off this guest. Especially not if she was here to befriend both her and Elsa. Elsa could really use a friend and since she wouldn't accept her, Anna truly hoped her older sister would find comfort in this foreigner.

The carriage rolled to a halt, and several guards went to the door to escort the princess out. Anna was surprised to see that the princess did not exit first, but rather a young woman, dressed as a servant, and a young child. The woman and child appeared to both be servants, followed by an elderly gentleman. He was short and had a long beard, and Anna vaguely wondered in food ever got caught in it, and if so, how he knew. Finally, the princess exited.

Although Anna would be the first one to admit that she had not base of comparison, she firmly believed that this was the strangest looking princess she had ever seen. Not that she was strange looking of course, Anna thought, because she was one of the most beautiful people Anna had ever seen. Her hair was long and brown, with carmel and red highlights that were accentuated by the sun. She was tall and lean, her eyes a warm, chocolatey brown, and a small, crooked grin sat upon her face. She looked friendly, and Anna couldn't help but notice the ease in which she held herself. She said something to the young child and he giggled, glancing shyly up at her, and the brown haired princess gave a full smile, crinkling around her eyes, causing her whole face to light up.

No, Anna observed, the girl wasn't strange in appearances. The way she was dressed was. Wearing trousers and a tunic, with a sword strapped to her waist, the princess looked more ready to charge into battle than to sit down with the royal family to discuss trade. The way she spoke with her servants was strange as well. In a familiar way, as if they were equals. Which is not to say that Anna was ever rude to her servants, nor were her parents, but she never would have traveled with three of them, especially with such a wide range of ages.

Suddenly, Anna noticed that the girl was right in front of her, her servants standing behind her with their belongings in hand. How long was I staring? The red headed girl wondered, blushing slightly in embarassment.

"Welcome to Arendalle. My name is King Agnarr, this is my wife Iduna, and our daughter Anna." He greeted.

The girl nodded at each of them. "It is a to meet you all, your majesties. My name is Natalli of the Western Isles. I am honored to be hear. My traveling companions are Edward," the young boy gave a small bow, "Emma," the servant girl curtised, "and Charles," the old man bowed, although not as deeply as the young boy did. He winced slightly standing back up straight, and Anna wondered if perhaps his beard was weighing him down.

"I trust your trip was well?" The queen asked with a pleasant smile."

The princess grinned. "It was very good, your majesty. I love the water, and any chance I can get to sail is always a pleasure. I'm afraid I can't say the same for everyone." She glanced at the servant girl beside her. "Apparently the sea does not agree with everyone," she uttered laughing, and the girl behind her blushed, looking away from the royal family.

"Oh dont worry, that happens to a lot of people. I bet we can find some medicine to help your stomach settle, right father?" Anna interjected, smiling at the flustered girl and mentally congratulating herself on neither stuttering or rambling.

"Yes, of course. Follow us, we can show you to your rooms."

"Thank you, sir." Natalli said, following the royal family into the castle.

Elsa stood in her room, of looking out the window. Her family was greeting the princess of the Western Isles, a valuable trading partner that Arendalle was looking to acquire. Anna was bouncing excitedly and talking to who Elsa assumed to be the princess, despite her manly choice of clothing. Her sister looked so happy, and Elsa longed to be able to share in this moment with her family. Her father had warned her that guests would be arriving today, and as much as she wanted to meet them, wanted to start learning about ruling a kingdom, her fears controlled her mind. What if I say the wrong thing? What if I hurt someone? What if Anna is there and I hurt her?

Frost appeared throughout the room, and Elsa sank against the wall. Conceal, don't feel. She sighed. Meeting people was not important. Running the kingdom some day was not important. All that was important was Anna and her safety, even if it meant never leaving this room every again.

AN: Done with this chapter! I will try to get one out during the week if this story seems to be liked. Please review and let me know what you think :)
