AN: I've heard a lot of people saying how bad of a mother Mrs. Everdeen was, I disagree. I realize she did leave Katniss and Prim for some time to fend for themselves, but if she hadn't Katniss wouldn't have gone back into the woods, she never would have improved her archery skills. I'm not saying she was a good mother, but what she did changed Katniss in a good way, she made her stronger.

This is after the Hunger Games but before the Quarter Quell.

Katniss' P.O.V

"Katniss!" Mom called me from downstairs.

"What?!"

"Can you come down here for a second please?"

"Coming!"

I walked down to the kitchen where my mom was sitting at.

"Hey."

I haven't talked to mom in a while, I haven't forgiven her for leaving me and my little sister Prim, when my father died in a mining insident.

"Could we talk?"

"I guess..." I sat down across my mom at the table.

"Well, I know that you still haven't forgiven me, but I was wondering if we could start trying to rebulid our relationship."

"Sure mom. I have to go, I promised Prim that I would braid her hair today." Even though you left us, I want to start fresh again.

Prim's P.O.V

I heard my mom call Katniss downstairs as I stepped out of the shower. I hope she doesn't have to go somewhere, she promised to braid my hair...

"Prim!"

"Yeah?"

"Are you ready for me to do your hair?"

"Yeah, come in." Katniss stepped into my room as I finished getting dressed and sat down on my bed.

"What did mom want from you?" I asked curiously as Buttercup came into my room and onto my lap. I stroked his fur as I waited for her response.

"Umm.. She wanted to ask me if we could try and rebuild our relationship. Mine and hers."

"You know, if she hadn't left us, you wouldn't have gotten the courage and need to go back into the woods without dad. You never would have learned even more. She's the reason you're here."

"What do you mean, Prim?"

"I mean, would you have ever gone into the woods if we had enough to eat? Would you ever pick up your bow again knowing that it was your last connection to dad?"

"No, I wouldn't have..." She stopped braiding my hair. I turned to look at her.

"Katniss, she lost her love, you know how that feels, you almost lost Peeta."

"What are you talking about? Peeta is not my love!" She snapped at me.

"You didn't want to live without him, you were willing to commit suicide. He helped us by giving you the bread, he gave you hope and courage. You have a debt to him, and I know how much you hate having debt. You love him."

She sighs. "Little duck, when have you gotten so smart?" She smiled at me and finished braiding my hair.

"Ever since I thought you were going to die in the Hunger Games, when you held out those berries in the arena."

I smiled at her.
