"What are we going to do?" Lydia asked Scott. "Don't panic. I think that our best option is to split the group. They'll have to choose who they're going to chase. Derek, get Stiles out of here, and I'll take Lydia." Scott grabbed Lydia's hand. Derek smirked, "You trust me not to get your best friend killed? I'm flattered." Scott glowered back at him. "Honestly I think that the twins are more likely to go after you, and I think Stiles will be a bigger help to you than Lydia. But if he dies, I'll kill you." he snapped at Derek. With that, the group split.
"Derek! SLOW DOWN! Seriously...I don't have werewolf speed like you all do." I was panting, trying to catch up to the Alpha. Derek grimaced at me, and slowed his pace. Derek barked, "Look, the sooner that we can get out of here, the better." He stiffened as he heard a noise. "Stiles, don't move." "What is it?" I whispered, moving closer to Derek. "I'm not sure..." Derek replied, shifting so he could hear better. Suddenly, he whirled around and picked me up.
"DEREK! What are you doing?! Put me down, dude!" I yelped. But all my protests fell on deaf ears. I felt the sensation of moving faster than I thought humanly possible. Flailing around, finally I found something solid to grab onto as I was carried at lightning speed. When the world finally stopped spinning around me, I froze. I realized three things very quickly: 1) The solid thing I had grabbed onto was Derek's neck, 2)I had buried his head in Derek's chest, and 3) Derek still hadn't put me down.
"Umm...Derek? Can you put me down now?" I asked, feeling sheepish about the circumstances I found myself in. "No." "Oh. Why not?" I inquired. Derek smugly responded, "Because you and I have some unfinished business to take care of before that can happen." Uh-oh. I thought I had hidden things pretty well from him, but evidently not. "Um...and you can't put me down to discuss this?" I asked. He shook his head, and I could feel his stubble graze my cheek as he did so. "Nope. Because I want to feel your heartbeat through your chest as you answer my question." He murmured. I could feel his voice rumbling through his chest, and it just made me more embarrassed. "And, uh, what question might that be?" I managed to squeak out.
There was absolutely no getting out of it. "Well, I heard you mentioning to Scott that you might swing... 'both ways', I believe is how you put it." The smug bastard! I could feel him smiling against the top of my head. "Is there a question in there somewhere?" I sassed at him, trying to avoid the situation. "Were you being serious?" he breathed out. That was it. I was gone. Completely done for. There was no hiding it from him now—I could feel my heart quickening even as I responded, "Um...yeah." "And that part about you liking someone? Was that true too?" he continued to ask. I looked up at him. "Seriously dude? Do you listen in on everything I talk about with Scott?" A slight flush crept across his cheeks. "You're avoiding the question! Answer it!" he hissed at me.
I'm not one for risking my life. But maybe it was all the situations we had been in lately, or the fact that I really didn't care anymore. He could already tell if I was lying or not. And I caught him completely off guard.
I heard a growl in his throat, and quickly pulled back. Maybe I'd overstepped, and finally pissed Derek off to the extreme. The last thing I wanted was to die at the hands of a werewolf. He glared at me, and said, "Why did you stop? I wasn't quite done with you yet." As he pulled me back in for another kiss, I knew I had made the right decision. I'd have to ask Scott to pair us up more often...
