Annabeth woke up happy. She and Percy had gotten permission from Chiron to leave camp and see a movie. She got dressed quietly so she wouldn't wake up any of her siblings. She put $20 in her pocket, with some golden drachmas, just in case.

When Annabeth got to the Poseidon cabin, she knocked. Nobody answered, so Annabeth went in, thinking that Percy must still be asleep. She looked in his bed, but he wasn't there. She was starting to panic, but she told her mind to shut up. He must be at the beach, she thought, so she headed for the beach.

The beach was empty when she got there. She really started to panic now. She also checked the canoe lake. Percy was nowhere to be found, so she decided to go to the Big House and tell Chiron. Annabeth found Chiron playing pinochle with Mr. D on the porch of the Big House. "Chiron can I talk to you? It's about Percy." Apparently that startled Chiron. " Of course, of course. Come in Annabeth."

Once inside Chiron asked "What is it Annabeth? Is Percy alright?" Annabeth could feel the panic in her, threatening to show. "Chiron, the thing is, Percy seems to have gone missing." Even she was surprised by how calm her voice sounded. "You looked everywhere for him?" asked Chiron. "Yes, but I couldn't find him anywhere." Annabeth was about to burst into tears. Chiron dismissed her and she left. She ran to the woods, because she knew she would be alone there. Once she was in the woods, she started to cry.

It was almost dark when she got back to her cabin. She knew everyone would be at the campfire. So she went there, not even hiding where she had been crying. Percy, her boyfriend, was gone. Why not cry? She expected people to stare, and they did. She was Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena. She wasn't supposed to cry. But she had been. And Chiron had to say why.

Annabeth sat down beside her siblings. "What's wrong?", she heard her siblings ask her. Instead of answering, she stood up. "Chiron," she said, "Aren't you going to tell them? They need to know why Percy's not here." Everyone started talking at the same time. "Where's Percy?" someone yelled. Chiron stomped his hooves. Everyone stopped talking. "Everyone sit. This is very saddening for me to say, but Percy has gone missing."
