"Here, put this on."
Demetri handed me a long black hooded cloak. I clutched the dark fabric that was laying on my cold bare hands and just stared...stared into his blazing red eyes.
"Demetri?" I asked.
He reverted his glance away from me."What?"
"Why am I here? Outside?"
The Volturi never accepted me as part of their coven. Always hidden away in the dark. Never seeing the light of day. I was their prisoner, used for their own selfish deeds.
Anger flashed through me hot and wild. I felt the blood pulse through my neck, pounding behind my ears. My hands tightened into fists.
Demetir's body tensed. I knew he could smell my...scent.
"Why. Am. I. Here?" I growled through my clenched teeth.
Demetri met my gaze, but looked at me as if I were far away.
"Aro has a special task for you."
I closed my eyes and felt my body shudder. Since when did Aro have a special task for me?
"Come on," He said. "We have to get going."
I fought back tears as I put on the cloak. I decided that it was best to throw the hood over my head, making my face cowled, shadowed.
Denetri chuckled."It's amazing how that cloak suits you."
I rolled my eyes, unamused.
Cold hands gripped the side of my neck, feeling my pulse. He closed his eyes and inhaled my scent.
"Ah," He sighed. "You have no idea how rare your blood is. It's so...appealing."
I flinched away from his grasp.
Ever so slowly, his hands started reaching out towards mine.
I glared at him.
He sighed in frustration, "We don't have all day."
My jaw clenched as extended my hand slowly towards his. He gripped me and lifted me off the ground. I gasped in surprise as he lifted me over his shoulder. I folded there, my head and my chest hanging over his back. His arms held my legs against his chest and we were already moving.
I had no sense of where we were going; I didn't try to guess or think about it.
He streaked through the forest like a bullet. Yes I admit, it was quite amazing. I already knew that vampires had super strength and had incredible speed, it just never got tiring.
In a matter of minutes, Demetri came to an abrupt stop. I felt my body fall forward and his grip tightened.
"Careful," He cautioned.
I nodded.
Demetri pulled me down and set me lightly on my feet.
"Demetri, Melanie."
I turned around to see a small petite figure walking slowly towards us. She was wearing a deep gray cloak and her face was completely shadowed.
"Jane," Demetri said.
"Follow me," Jane spoke again, her childish voice ringing. She turned her back on us and drifted silently into the trees.
Demetri wrapped his hands around my waist and pulled me along right behind Jane.
As we were walking, my eyes danced all around the forest catching everything in sight. The mossy wet earth, the beautiful swaying trees, leaves covered in snow falling gracefully to the ground, the bubbling music of the stream.
I inhaled the fresh, clean air and sighed.
Demetri peered down at me confused.
"It's beautiful out here," I said. "with all the openness and fresh air-it's calming.
I saw a flash of pain go through his eyes, but it was only there for a second before he grinned at me.
