It was afternoon in the city of Royal Woods, and the sun was starting to set as Mrs. Johnson sat alone close to the entrance as she waited a certain someone to arrive. Once that someone, Mrs. DiMartino, went inside and sat on the opposite end of the table, the redhead immediately cheered up.
"Hello, Martha," Agnes greeted with a smile. "I'm glad you could come."
"I'm happy you invited me, I always wanted to see how Gus' Games and Grub looked on the inside," DiMartino answered as she looked at the sunset. "You know, what with my daughter always telling me it was the best."
"Yeah..."
And then, once the waitress-A certain Lori Loud-delivered a pair of milkshakes of the women's table, Agnes said, "Now, if you don't mind me going straight to the topic-"
"I certainly don't."
DiMartino drank her milkshake as Agnes hesitated, and then said, "I want you to substitute me again."
The Latin-American woman promptly spat out her drink. "I know it's shocking to hear me ask you to do that-"
"No, that's not why I spat it out!" DiMartino clarified, then eyed the milkshake. "This is chocolate, and I don't like chocolate."
"...I see, I didn't see that coming, b-but I can fix it."
One quick milkshake replacement later, DiMartino drank her strawberry milkshake as Agnes explained what she meant:
"Look, due to... Personal issues, I can't teach at the school this week. And so, since I remembered you were my substitute last time, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask if you could substitute me again?"
"Sure, I can do it," DiMartino answered with a shrug. "Just give me the details on your previous lessons now, 'cause I promised Shrinivas I wouldn't come home late."
Mrs. Johnson explained everything to the Latin-American woman, then bid farewell, only for her to spot something that sounded odd just as DiMartino was going to leave.
"DiMartino, wait!"
The woman stopped right on her tracks.
"I need to ask, is Shrinivas a nickname you give to your husband... Or are you referring to Mrs. Shrinivas, the kindergarten teacher?"
DiMartino just turned around, gave Agnes a wink and playful smile, then left the place and a confused Agnes behind.
"She really is more of an enigma than I expected."
