A/N: For the lovely Dawn of Chaos. There is no happy ending.
The End
Blood gathers around Leon's countenance as a wet cough erupts from his throat. He hadn't expected Xemnas to show up and challenge him to a fight. When it happened, the brunet thought it perfect; weaken the leader so Sora could have an easier time with him. He didn't expect Xemnas to summon hundreds of heartless and have them attack him at once.
Leon did well at first. He slashed through them as if they were paper and got through their masses easily enough. Things are never as they seem, so when the last one fell to his gunblade, Leon thought that was it. He didn't anticipate one of the stronger heartless to sneak attack him from behind and slash at his back with their sword.
Blood spattered on the grass. Leon grunted and fell to one knee, his gunblade being the sole thing to hold his body upwards. The heartless didn't stop its attack; it raced towards the brunet and slashed at him once again. This time Leon managed to avoid its attack, but just barely. Weakened, he managed to get a few hits on the heartless, but not before it stabbed through his abdomen.
Leon fell to the ground, fingers twitching around the hilt of his gunblade. He heard Xemnas' laughter above him before the Nobody and heartless dissipated.
A little smile curls Leon's lip as rain falls from overhead, but a wince follows soon afterward; why does the rain hurt each time it hits his bare skin? Closing his eyes, Leon's mind wanders to the little kid who waltzed his way in his life without any warning and played his heart as if it was an instrument he mastered for years.
Leon knew Sora for but a year. However, in that short amount of time, the brunet found someone he wanted to protect from the evils of the universe. How ironic Sora was meant to fight every bad thing the worlds had to offer, yet that bright smile always lingered on his face whenever he came to Hollow Bastion and saw his old friends.
Another cough spatters even more blood on the now crimson earth. A small chuckle floats off Leon's lips as his body begins to tremble. This is how it ends… pathetic. I never got to see him again…
As coldness begins to leak into his limbs, Leon takes a deep, shallow breath. Sora's smiling face is the only thing giving him peace. He's alone and Leon knows none of his friends will find him before death wraps him in its embrace. He told them he was going to think and they knew to leave him alone when that happens.
His stomach clenches when Leon realizes he'd never see Sora or his beautiful smile ever again. Small laughs erupt from his throat as a single tear falls down his cheek. I hope someone else will protect you, Sora… I'm sorry I can't anymore…
Footfalls run towards him, but it's already too late. The soul left his body and all that was left was the bloody remain.
Tears fall on Leon's pale cheeks as the person wraps him in their arms and sobs against him. "Come back Leon… come back!"
Silence is their answer.
Fin.
