"There's no escape."
"You must choose"
She groaned, trying to fight those venomous thoughts that kept echoing in her head and threatened to consume her.
She was lying in rubble, frozen in fear. She had no idea what was going on at the moment. Many questions were going through her head. The Sky that was still filled with glowing orange balls didn't help in raising her hopes. She was completely terrified at the thought of failure, the thought of life being completely wiped out. she completely refused to believe that, a part of her told her that she succeeded, the other said she didn't. But she wasn't going to listen to her intuition this time. She had to get up and figure it out.
Pushing the debris away from her, Shepard barely managed to stand up. Her whole body was in agony but she tried her best to ignore it. Breathing was so hard that she felt her chest collapsing with every single breath.
She looked around her; her vision was so blurred and she couldn't make out her surroundings. She only recognized a light from afar, and decided to head that way.
Walking wasn't easy, she tripped every few steps along the way, but at least she was able to walk, and that was a miracle itself. But the more she walked, the further away the light seemed. She slowly begin regretting her decision. She was tempted to just collapse on the floor and close her eyes for eternity, but she knew she couldn't. She made a promise to come back and she always kept her promises.
….
Thane shook his feet reluctantly as he sat in a big shuttle with Garrus, James and a few other soldiers and Medics. They were supposed to be looking for his Siha but the search was taking so long. They had already scanned a few areas but couldn't find anything.
Thane was losing hope with every passing second. Was she still alive? What if she died because they weren't fast enough?
His heart clutched at the thought. He was so nervous and afraid it was too late. He'd been dreaming of their reunion for a really long time, but the war prevented that from happening. She had promised him to comeback, but he had begun to doubt it.
He felt a taloned hand on his shoulder, and turned around to see Garrus telling him that they arrived. Thane nodded at the turian as he hopped out of the shuttle.
The place, like all the others, was nothing but ruins. They started looking everywhere, with no sign of her. Suddenly, he heard a soldier calling.
"look there!" the man said as with his hand pointed towards the road. Thane's gaze shifted quickly towards the direction and suddenly, he felt the world spinning around him as a wave of relief swept through him. She was there! His Siha was there! She was alive! He felt his legs running automatically towards her.
When she saw him, her lips curled up into the most beautiful smile; It was enough to wash all the weariness, doubt and fear away. But his happiness didn't last for long as she fell on the floor.
"Siha, no!" he yelled, quickening his pace. In seconds, he reached her and wrapped his arms around her.
She looked at him with her half-closed, tired eyes. How could she still look so angelic even with all the bruises on her face?
"Is it over?" She asked, her voice a trembling whisper.
"Yes." He told her as his hand slid through her hair that, even with all the dirt and blood, still felt wonderful. God, he'd been yearning and dreaming about this moment for so long.
The medics quickly came. One of them started applying medi-gel to her injuries, while another checked her vitals. Thane was still holding her the whole time. When they started moving her to the stretcher, she refused to let go of Thane's hand.
"Thane… Stay with me… please." She begged. He nodded then pushed a strand of hair away from her face, then kissed her swiftly on the forehead.
"Of course! I won't leave you." He assured her, squeezing her hand tightly. She smiled again, taking his breath away in the process.
