He held her face in his hands. "I'm so sorry," he whispered brokenly. "I'm so, so sorry."

"Wesley, stop that," she replied softly.

"But I let you die!"

"No, Wesley. No you didn't. You didn't know what would happen."

"B-But I wanted to save you, I-I tried to save you –"

"Sssh." She kissed him, her lips soft and warm and alive.

Tears streamed down Wesley's cheeks. "Don't. You're-You're not really here. I'm dreaming."

She placed her hands on his cheeks. "You're not, Wesley." She stroked her thumbs along his cheeks. "I'm here. Not sure how just yet, but I'm here." She forced his head onto her chest.

He heard her heart beat. "You…Alive?" He looked up to her and pulled her tightly into his arms. "I love you." He sobbed into her hair. "Please don't ever leave me. I can't bear to be without you."

She rubbed his back, closing her eyes. "A woman has to die before a man realizes his feelings, I suppose."

Wesley let out a weak laugh. "Lilah…" He hugged her tighter.

"I love you, too, Wesley. I've always loved you." She brought her lips to his ear. "I'm sorry it took so long for me to tell you."

Wesley pulled back a little and kissed her deeply, afraid to let go.

They remained like that for a very long time.
