If I Never See Your Face Again

Summary: takes place after the FF scene from the finale.
A couple of minutes after Kate got back home from the airport, he was already knocking. She didn't even need to open the door to know it was him. She thought she saw his jeep following her, but she was so enraged she didn't take full notice to it. Besides, it was late at night and she wasn't really expecting anyone to drop by at this hour. The nanny just left, after asking her for the 4th time if she's sure she's ok and doesn't need her to spend the night. Kate shook her head and blew her nose and insisted she'd be alright.
But now he was about to change it all.
"I know it's you, just please leave." She said across the door, trying to control her shaky voice.
"Kate I, please? I really need to talk to you." His muffled voice filled her.
"You've talked enough." She snarled, still not opening the door.
"Kate…" he sighed heavily, "I need you."
"How dare you?" she opened the door immediately, just about ready to shove him off the balcony. "So you need me all of a sudden? How dare you?! After everything that's happened… you just took off! You didn't even come to pick up your things! You just took off. You didn't even wonder how it made me feel, you didn't bother to call and ask if I was ok, if we were ok! And then when you really hit rock bottom you call me up and ask me to go back with you?! I can't believe a fucking word you say when you're like that! So you want me to throw away my life, my child's life, and go back to that goddamned island with you?!"
"I… I'm sorry." He said taken aback and she rolled her eyes. "for everything you just said and so much more, I am so, so sorry. Since the moment I met you, you filled this void I didn't even know existed, and when we got together… when you let me into your life, into, into his life…that meant the world. I was happy Kate, I was genuinely happy. And I believe I could be. But the island is so much stronger than all of us Kate, could you honestly say all the things that happened when we were trying to escape didn't show it?" he didn't wait for a respond. "So you don't ever have to forgive me, but you have got to believe me and you have got to go back with me. Because this, right here, this could be the very last time I ever see your face." His voice cracked and he lowered his head. She looked away trying to hide the fact that last line affected her. "You see, after I left this house, the void got back, and it only grew bigger. But knowing I won't ever see you again… noting cold ever mend that."
They were both silent for a long time. She was holding the banister, holding on for support and still not facing him. He was standing 2 steps beneath her looking at her teary eyes, waiting for her to say something, anything. She finally faced him, looking cold and distant – as if this conversation never took place.
"It's late, you should probably leave." She simply said quietly. He shook his head, almost afraid.
"No, please. Kate…" he tried to reach for her hand but she just yanked it away.
"Goodbye Jack." She muttered and entered the house, leaving him there.

A/N: I know this didn't end on a happy note, but look at it this way – season 5 is all about them going back. Ben said they ALL have to go back together. This, in my opinion is just what happens between the finale and the S5 premiere. Kate obviously changes her mind, for whatever reason, and joins Jack.
