Song lyrics from Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Leia tossed and turned in her sleep.

She heard the voice of her brother:

"Leia, everything that he did to you on Bespin was a ploy to trap me. He is determined to seek me out. I can't rest, I know he's always looking for me. He has done such unspeakable things to dozens of worlds! He has no humanity at all."

Luke 's eyes hardened with long-standing hatred.

"If he has to kill a thousand men, he will kill again and again."

Leia's eyes grew hot and filled with tears. Every waking moment, and even in her dreams, she felt oppressed by the darkness, which seemed to have a source-Vader. The memories of all he'd done to her were too much to bear. The only escape from the searing loss she felt weighing on her was to end her own life. In her weakest and most selfish moments, she was ashamed to be tempted by that escape.

Who is this man? I can't escape from him, I never will. He'd taken everything from her- her home, her family, her dignity, her bravery, and now…

Now, he'd even taken Han away from her.

Her face screwed up in horror as memories, unbidden and uncalled for, flooded her consciousness. The Death Star. The black corridor of the detention block, the harsh fluorescent lights gleaming off that polished black. Everywhere, polished black.

"I've seen him! Can I ever forget that sight? Can an I ever escape from that face, so distorted a face, it was hardly a face in the darkness…"

She felt sharp horror, and then…then a familiar, warm, soothing presence filled her dream. Leia turned as a figure dressed in soft blue robes padded towards them. She placed a small warm hand on Leia's shivering shoulder. Her voice was a whisper that intoned peace, comfort; rest.

"No more talk of darkness. Forget these wide-eyed fears. I'm here."

She turned compassionate, deep brown eyes toward Leia.

"You are wrong, sweetheart. Darth Vader has humanity. He was a human, once. A part of him still is. His face used to be beautiful…"

Leia listened in faint horror and intense fascination. She wondered who this beautiful dark-haired woman was. She seemed so familiar. Her eyes overflowed with sorrow.

"…he was so beautiful. Eventually, he no longer smiled. Everything he loved was slowly taken away. The day he was lost to me, I saw him. The darkness around him was powerful. Never since have I felt darkness like that. That beautiful boy…he was a murderer. He was vicious, his face was twisted…he advanced to kill me… his face was hideousYet in his eyes, all the sadness of the worlds. Those flaming eyes, that both threaten and adore…"
