A/N: I love Bart and I hate that Lily couldn't love him... I think this is what should have happened on the day of the wedding.

The Runaway Bride

Rufus paid the cab driver and got out of his cab. The whole ride over from Brooklyn he tried to talk himself out of this. She was getting married today to a billionaire. A really scary looking billionaire. But that didn't matter because Rufus loved her and she loved him. He could see it in her eyes as she spoke to her fiance on the phone. Lily wasn't in love with Bart. She was still in love with him.

He ignored the people at the front who demanded his name, pushed past them and found Lily's dressing room. She was surprised to see him but he could also see her relief.

"Thank God."

"What?"

"You came to stop me, didn't you? Ask me to not marry Bart and I won't."

He hesitated because he really hadn't thought it would be this easy. "Lily, I love you, I have loved you this whole time. Please don't marry Bart. Marry me." Lily smiled and hugged him.

"Well, I think we have to reconnect first but that is certainly a possibility. Thank you, Rufus. I love you too, I just didn't want to admit it to myself." They kissed but jumped when there was a knock at the door.

"Mom? What's taking so long? We should be having dinner by now!"

Lily walked to the door and Serena gasped when she saw Rufus. "Really, Mom? Really? So does this mean the wedding's off?" Lily nodded. "I'm not telling him, so come out here and tell him yourself. He deserves that from you."

"Would you have Bart come back here, dear? I can't do it in front of all those people."

Serena rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I can do that. Just so you know, you guys really suck." Serena left in a huff, but Lily wasn't sure if the comment referred to the cancelled wedding or the fact that she had caught her mother kissing her boyfriend's father.

"You know we do have four teenagers to consider now. Maybe this isn't the best idea."

"Rufus, it's fine. I'm not marrying Bart today. We don't have to run away tonight but if you want we can take it slowly. We have all the time in the world now."

Rufus smiled. "But I don't want to spend another moment without you." She smiled at him and nodded.

"Well, maybe you should head out when Bart gets here. Go home, I'll call you when this is done." He nodded and kissed her. He didn't wait for Bart to arrive because that would only cause a scene.

The next day started like the one before for Rufus and Lily. Only this time there was no phone call from a worried fiance, no awkward lies. Just waffles and pancakes and bacon with four teenagers at the Humphrey loft.
